TO REVIVE SYSTEMATIC
COTTON SEED
PRODUCTION

 An active Cotton Seed Production Programme was

launched during 2014
Availability of 20% (8000MT) Certified and 30%
(12000) approved Seed was Targeted for the year
2015
A brochure to improve cotton seed germination
was developed in collaboration with public and
private cotton seed stakeholders (6000 copies
were distributed)
Series of Meetings and Training programme for
capacity building of public and private sector seed
producers and regulators organized

Major Role of Certified seed of

cotton varieties
Two

leading Bt. cotton varieties of

Punjab province i.e. FH-142 and MNH886 played a major role in provision of
certified cotton seed
Both these varieties were also got
approved from Sindh Seed Council for
cultivation in Sindh Province

Seed (Amendment) Act 2015

Implementation of Seed (Amendment) Act 2015

is aimed to;
Delineate the role of registered seed companies, seed
dealers, processing units, plant nurseries established in the
private sector
Allow private sector to produce and multiply basic seed
Allow public and private sector to establish accredited seed
testing laboratory
Permit integration of Genetically Modified varieties in the
system subject to law
Enhance penalties for effective deterrence against sale of
sub-standard seeds.
