la familia de las cactaceas

 The family belongs to Cacti and succulent plants, a large majority, prickly,
known collectively as cacti or cactuses Many other species of cacti have
become naturalized in conditions similar to those of their habitat in other
parts of the world, once introduced by people.

 Many succulent plants in both the Old and the New World, have a striking
resemblance to the cactus the clearest identifying characteristic of the
cactus family is the areola, a specialized structure from which the spines
and new shoots, in many cases, the flowers.

 Cacti are considered to have evolved from a 30 to 40 million years.
Características
morfologicas

 The stems of the cactus, which basically comprise the body of the plant are
thickened by the development of the parenchyma and its green color
because they are photosynthetic.

 Three main forms of stem:
 Cladodes: stems flattened paddle-shaped (like cacti)

 Columnar: cylindrical stems (with or without branching).

 Globose: almost spherical bearing stems barrel (as in biznagas)

Areola
 Areoles, usually maintain two areas of growth.

 At the top are produced flowers (flowering meristems) and
espinulíferos meristems in the bottom.
 Areoles develop multiple hairs or trichomes (like cotton
fibers) and bones (and in genres older leaves).
Etimologia
 The Greek word Κακτους in Theophrastus Historia Plantarum

 The word derives from Greek cactus Κάκτος Kakteen,

 Cactus Carduus derived the Latin word, which eventually led to the Spanish
thistle.

 During the Middle Ages the word cactus was the usual name for the edible
artichoke.
