PROFILE OF MR.SARTHAK
BEHURIA

Mr. Sarthak Behuria is Chairman, Indian Oil Corporation Limited,


Indias largest.
He is also Chairman (part-time) of group company Chennai Petroleum
Corporation Ltd., besides heading IOT Infrastructure & Energy Services
Ltd., a joint venture for building and operating terminalling services
for petroleum products.
Under Mr. Behurias stewardship, Indian Oil is transforming into a
major, diversified,transnational integrated energy company. Besides
consolidation in the core areas of refining and marketing the
Corporation is vigorously pursuing a string of strategic initiatives
across the hydrocarbon value chain for upstream integration into
exploration & production of oil, downstream integration into
petrochemicals and diversification into natural gas marketing and
alternative fuels, besides globalisation of downstream operations.

He acquired a degree in economics from St. Stephens


College in New Delhi before gaining a post-graduate
qualification in business administration from the reputed
Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.He began his
career in the energy industry by joining Burmah Shell in
1973, after which he was absorbed in Bharat Petroleum
Corporation (BPCL), wherein he served varied portfolios in
supply and distribution, sales, industrial relations and
downstream infrastructure, before rising to the position of
Chairman and Managing Director in the year 2002.During
his time at BPCL, Behuria utilised his expertise in marketing
to transform the organisations retail operation by focusing
on customer expectations.

HOW HE BECOME
ENTREPNEUR

He was the driving force behind the successful Pure for Sure campaign
which emphasised the importance of quality for the first time in the oil
industry.In 2005, Behuria was appointed as the Chairman of the Indian
Oil Corporation (IOC), replacing MS Ramachandran, who retired in
February 2005. The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) the
body in charge of recruiting the IOC Chairman, selected Behuria over
seven other candidates.
During his five-year stint at IOC, Behuria ensured that the PSU grew
steadily in the Fortune 500 rankings as he oversaw a 25% annual
increase in revenues. His strategic initiatives with regards to
diversification as well as backward and forward integration drove IOC
towards development and a remarkable 100% increase in revenue
growth over a five-year period.[9] His tenure as Chairman at IOC was not
extended, as Brij Mohan Bansal was selected to take up Behurias place
after his retirement in the year 2010.
In 2011, Behuria was appointed by Krishan Kumar Modi as the
organisations Group President as well as the Chairman of the Corporate
Executive Committee.

INDIAN OIL CORPORATION


It is a public sector Indian Petroleum company and also the
largest commercial enterprise in India. This company ranks
116 on the list of the Fortune Global 500 list in the year
2008.It operates the widest and the largest network of fuel
stations in India which is about 17,606.Auto LPG Dispensing
Stations are started by the company and it helps reach
Indane Cooking Gas to 47.5 million households. The
company's products are diesel, petrol , Servo Lubricants etc.
It began operation in 1959 as Indian Oil Company Ltd. The
Indian Oil Corporation was formed in 1964, with the merger
of Indian Refineries Ltd. Indian Oil and its subsidiaries
account for a 47% share in the petroleum products market,
40% share in refining capacity and 67% downstream sector
pipelines capacity in India. The Indian Oil Group of
Companies owns and operates 10 of India's 19 refineries
with a combined refining capacity of 60.2 million metric tons
per year.

PRODUCTS,LOYALTY PROGRAMS AND


COMPETITIORS
Products- Petrol, diesel, LPG, auto LPG, aviation turbine fuel,
lubricants, naphtha, bitumen, paraffin, kerosene etc. Xtra Premium
branded petrol, Xtra Mile high speed diesel, Servo lubricants, Indane
LPG, Autogas LPG, Indian Oil Aviation .Recently Indian Oil has also
introduced a new business line of supplying LNG(Liquefied natural gas)
by the cryogenic transportation. The branding called "LNG at
Doorstep". Lng headquarters are located in Lodhi Road Delhi.
Loyalty Programs
XTRAPOWER Fleet Card Program is aimed at Large Fleet Operators.
Currently it has 1 million customer base. XTRAREWARDS is a recently
launched loyalty program for retail customers where customers can
earn reward points on their purchases.
Competitiors
Indian Oil Corporation has two major domestic competitors, Bharat
Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum.
There are two private
competitors, Reliance Petroleum and Essar Oil.

REFENIRIES

Barauni Refinery, in Bihar, was built in collaboration with Russia and


Romania. It was commissioned in 1964 with a capacity of 1 MMTPA.
Its capacity today is 6 MMTPA.
Gujarat Refinery, at Koyali in Gujarat in Western India, is IndianOils
largest refinery. The refinery was commissioned in 1965. It also
houses the first hydrocracking unit of the country. Its present
capacity is 13.70 MMTPA.
Haldia Refinery is the only coastal refinery of the Corporation,
situated 136 km downstream of Kolkata in the Purba Medinipur (East
Midnapore) district. It was commissioned in 1975 with a capacity of
2.5 MMTPA, which has since been increased to 5.8 MMTPA
Mathura Refinery was commissioned in 1982 as the sixth refinery in
the fold of IndianOil and with an original capacity of 6.0 MMTPA.
Located strategically between the historic cities of Delhi and Agra,
the capacity of Mathura refinery was increased to 7.5 MMTPA.
Panipat Refinery is the seventh refinery of IndianOil. The original
refinery with 6 MMTPA capacity was built and commissioned in 1998.

Lanka IOC PLC - Group company for Sri Lanka retail and
storage operations which is listed on Colombo's stock
exchange. It was locked into a bitter subsidy payment dispute
with Sri Lanka's Government which has since been resolved.

Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
Bongaigoan Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd.
Green Gas Ltd. - joint venture with Gas Authority of India for
city-wide gas distribution networks.
Indo Cat Pvt. Ltd., with Intercat, USA, for manufacturing
15,000 tonnes per annum of FCC (fluidised catalytic cracking)
catalysts & additives in India, for catering to rising global
demand.

INTERNATIONAL RANKINGS AND AWARDS


INTERNATIONAL RANKINGSIndian Oil is the highest ranked Indian company in the
prestigious Fortune Global 500 listing, the 116th position(in
2008) based on fiscal 2007 performance. It is also the 18th
largest petroleum company in the world and the number one
petroleum trading company among the National Oil
Companies in the Asia-Pacific region. IOCL was featured on the
2008 Forbes Global 2000 at position 303.

AWARDS

Indian Oil received the Gold Trophy of SCOPE Meritorious Award for
Corporate Governance for the year 2012.
Indian Oil was awarded the prestigious ICSI National Award 2012 for
excellence in Corporate Governance instituted by Institute of
CompanySecretaries of India.
International Financing Review Asia (IFR Asia), one of the most
covetedcapital markets agencies in Asia, awarded the Indian Capital
Market Deal of the Year 2012 to IndianOils Singapore Dollars (SGD)
denominated long term bonds and included the deal in its Roll of Honour
for 2012.
Dun & Bradstreet, theworlds leading source of global business
information has awarded IndianOil with the Corporate Award 2012 in the
Oil - Refining and Marketing sector.
Indian Oil became the highest ranked Indian company (88th) in the
prestigious Fortune Global 500 listing.
