DEFINITION OF
MATHEMATICAL MODELING
Amathematical

modelis a
description of a system
usingmathematicalconcepts and
language. The process of developing a
mathematical modelis
termedmathematical modeling.

RESULT
Question 1

Given

x=e ,

y=t-1, -2 t 2

Question 2
Question 2(a)
I used trial and
error to find 3
sets of
parametric
equation for the
equation
(y-1)=49.
Let x=t=49 to
eliminate 49,
y=1+t
Let x=(t1)+49,y=t
Let

Question2(b)
X=-t is impossible to be
chosen as the parametric
equation for x because
surds cannot have
negative values.

x have limit value.

Question2(c)
yes,we can start
with any choice
for the
parametric
equation of y
because when I
substitute x=0
into the
equation
(y-1)=x-49, the
values are
positive.

CURVE OF ELLIPSE AND

CIRCLE
x=cos t-2, y=1=sin t ,0
t2

Collide
at (-2,0)

x=2sin t, y=3 cos t 0

t2

To determine at which point

the particles collide, I used
basic trigonometric identity
formula,
and
general
equation of circle and
ellipse . Then, I substituted
the values into the equation
and I found that the particle
collide at t=3 /2 ,(-2,0)

CONCLUSION

By using different value of t in the parameter equations,it describes

different points on the curve .Hence ,the curve can be drawn by
using different values of parameter.

From the equation given ,we can find out the parametric
equations.There are many ways to set up a parametric equations as
long as we can determine whether it will make cartesian equation
become underfined.

One of the applications of parametreic equations is to analyse the

motion of particles.

The graph of cartesian equations can be used to represent the path

travelled by particles.

The intersection points of graph represent the common positions

where the particles reach

We can determine whether collision happens or not by finding the

time when they reach the the intersection points. If they reach the
intersection points at the same time, collision happened .If they do
not reach the intersection point collision is not happened

explicit

functionis a function that is expressed

clearly. Therefore, it should be easy to understand
and apply. More precisely, it is a function that is
written in terms of an independent, or input,
variable.
We usually write explicit functions as one variable
in terms of another variable. A simple example of
an explicit function is a linear function such asy=
4x- 7. This function is written as the dependent
variableyin terms of the independent variablex.
It is expressed clearly, and we can easily evaluate
values for the independent variable. If we use
function notation, we can write this explicit
function asf(x) = 4x- 7.

This

is what I call animplicit function- it

depends on bothxandy;xandycannot be
separated. I can't writef(x)equals some
function ofx; it has to be some function
ofxandy. It's important to note that functions
like this aren't really functions, at least in the
traditional sense. What do I mean? Let's go
back to our circle,x^2 +y^2 = 1. I solved it
fory= the square root of (1 -x^2) andy= the square root of (1 -x^2), so I have two
functions that are implicit in our implicit
function. Let's take a look at another example.

Independent

Avariablein anequationthat may have its value freely

chosen without considering values of any other variable. For
equations such asy= 3x 2, the independent variable isx.
The variableyis not independent since it depends on the
number chosen forx.

Depend variable

Avariablethat depends on one or more other variables. For

equationssuch asy= 3x 2, the dependent variable isy.
The value ofydepends on the value chosen forx. Usually
the dependent variable is isolated on one side of an
equation. Formally, a dependent variable is a variable in an
expression,equation, orfunctionthat has its value
determined by the choice of value(s) of other variable(s).
