Module 2
Creating a Manikin
and Workspace
Overview
Human Builder is based on a best-in-class human modeling system, which allows
detailed investigation into human-centered design issues within the context of a
workspace before it physically exists. The Human Builder product focuses on
creating and manipulating digital humans within a digital workspace for a first-level
human-product interaction analysis. It also allows the process engineer to create and
populate the simulation world with resources like workers, tools, etc.
There are several tools contained within the Human Builder product, such as:
Manikin Generator
Kinematics Manipulator
Animation Generator
Vision Simulation
and many others
In this module, you will create several scenarios, each of which will teach you a
different aspect of manikin and workspace creation.
Objectives
You will learn to build a workspace and set manikin properties
You will learn to move the manikin and to interact with the workspace
You will learn to place constraints on manikins
You will learn how to create manikin catalogues
You will learn how to perform a clash analysis

Redefine offsets this is a method for redefining the behavior of Reach Mode. It allows you to transfer the end effector of a segment to another point. will reach the target and not the palm of the hand.

The offset command is used to redefine the behavior of the Reach Mode. Reach Mode
default behavior is to make the end point of the selected segment reach the compass
location. The offset command, therefore, allows you to transfer that end point to a
different point in 3D space.
From the specification tree, expand the nodes of the selected manikin to the
appropriate level.
From the Manikin Tools toolbar, click the Attach/Detach button. You will be asked to
select the object to which you would like to attach the manikin.

In this scenario, you will learn about the concept of manikin constraints.
Constraints are restrictions placed between manikin segments and the

how manikins can behave. Constraints are specific to the manikins in which
you have created them, and are located in the Product tree.
