Correlation between total flight hours with

increasing of blood creatinine serum in

indonesian lift aircraft pilot
Herdy Adriano, MD; Flight Surgeon Course Lakespra Saryanto
TNI AU
Number of total Flying
hours have a great influences to A
pilot health. The relationship
between it has been studied for a
long time, due to the greater
number of flying hours is owned
The longer the exposure on
altitude conditions, which will
increase the occurrence of relative
dehydration risk due to
low
ambient humidity at the high
altitude and hypoxia as a result of
decrease in partial pressure of the
air.
Kidneys are the organs that
will directly influence by long
flight conditions. Dehydration and
hypoxia conditions that may occur
will be closely linked to the
kidneys. Because the kidney is an
organ which has one of the
important role that regulate fluid
and acid-base balance of the body
manusia.
Serum
markers
commonly
used
signs
and
symptoms of decline in kidney
function was proteinuria and
increased blood creatinine levels.
Dehydration is usually not
recognized by aviators and habits
of consumption of food or
beverages before and during the
flight will also effect of their
dehydration stats. Dehydration
which lasts longer and does not
immediately
rehydrate
will
increase kidney workload and will
affect glomerular filtration. When
finally a decreasing in kidney
function will be detected by
accident
through
medical
examination regular check ups as
seen from the increase in serum
creatinine.
In addition the length of a
person at an altitude will directly
influence
the
physiological
changes in the body's work
therefore will naturally be in a
state of hypoxia. Research on the
direct effects of long hours of
flying to the decreasing in kidney
function have not been found but
has been widely studied on the
condition of a person living at
altitude
and
directly
affect
changes in kidney function

Background

study population is pilot
Air Force aviators conducting

during 2014. Samples were pilot
Air Force aviators conducting
Medex in Lakespra Saryanto
during 2014 and meet the
inclusion and exclusion criteria.
The method of determining the
number of samples that the
researchers use is to use a
sample of saturated / with krejie
table.
Indonesian Air Force pilots
who meet the inclusion criteria
will be taken as sample data.
The collection of data obtained
from secondary data in Lakespra
Saryanto Medex results for 2014.
The data collected consisted of
the dependent variable
and
independent
variable.
dependent
variable:
blood
creatinine levels, independent
variables: long hours of flying.
The collected data will be
recorded and entered into the
computer (data entry). Further
data analysis will be done and
will be done using SPSS
statistical analysis chi square
test. The number of flight hours
is the flight duration is divided
into short and long term
(nominal data). Grouped into:
<1000 = Short, 1000> = Length
Increased
levels
of
blood
Kreatinin grouped into 2 parts
(nominal data) <1.1 = Normal,
1.1> = High.

Conclusion

Based on a study of 66 Indonesian Millitary

Air Force aviators conducting Medex in 2014
at Lakespra Saryanto, we concluded that
there was no significant correlation between
the total hours of flying with an Increase in
blood creatinine levels.

the

Results

Apparently after tested

with Spearman's test value of p>
0.05 so it was not statistically
significant. H0 so that it can be
proven that there was no
significant correlation between
the total hours of flying with an
increase in blood creatinine
levels at the Indonesia Air Force
Pilots that held Medex in
Lakespra at 2014.
In terms of correlation
coefficient obtained negative
results so the correlation
between variables were inverse.

any negative effects gained during high
altitude and exposed by a dehydration due to
low humidity and hypoxia conditions where
there is a decrease in the partial pressure of
the air, especially on kidney function, so it can
be detected early if there is developing
damage or decreasing in kidney function that
can be known danger, and can be prevented
from Indonesian Millitary Aviators, so it wont
be experienced by them in the future and also
for flight crews in the Indonesian Air Force that
exist today.
