G.SHDSL Introduction
Your Solution for Better Communications

The G.shdsl Serie G. Symmetric Highspeed Digital Subscriber Line (ITU-T G.991.2)
standard specifies symmetrical connection to
2 wires twisted pairs for subscribers lines with
echo cancelation.

G.SHDSL Introduction
Your Solution for Better Communications

Characteristics :
Released 14 December 2003
Evolution of HDSL standard
991.2 Annex A and B
Transport rates of 192kbps up to 2304kbps 2
wires , in steps of 64kbps. Can work in 4 wires

Annex A: the transmitted power is 13,5dBm for any
rate.

11

G.SHDSL Introduction
Your Solution for Better Communications

Connection process is done by follows

phases:
Handshake : Pre activation
Training :Activation
Data Mode : transmission

12

G.SHDSL Introduction
Your Solution for Better Communications

Handshake
Follows ITU-T G.994.1 (handshake for xDSL
transceivers)
DPSK modem : NTU 20Khz LTU 12Khz
Used to set parameters between to end-points:
Final transmission rate
Annex to be used (A, B)
Type of information to transport (TPS-TC protocol)
Type of transmissio frame (phesiochronous or
synchronous)

13

G.SHDSL Introduction
Your Solution for Better Communications

Training
Used to test the transmission line using the rate
agreed in handshake
Define the coeficients used for receive and transmit
digital filters
DPSK enconding changed to TC PAM
Can pass to other connection phase or abort . Some
reasons:
Line too long
Too much noise
Strong perturbation in line
Etc

Some characteristics:
ADSL

Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line ANSI T1.413-1998.

Upstream(25khz-138Khz)<Downstream(138khz-1104Khz). Short distances over PSTN
lines, less then 2km . Typically 128kbps-1024kbps.Can reachs 8mbps less then 1,5km.
CAP and DMT Line code.

HDSL

High Data Rate Subscriber Line

First DSL technology to use high
frequencies over twisted pairs, using AMI-Code, 2B1Q and CAP line code actually . Max
rate: 2048mbps.

SHDSL

G.Symmetric High-speed Digital Subscriber Line Symmetrical data

rates from 192kbps 2304kbps over one pair (4608kbps over 2 pairs) over to 3km.TCPAM16 Line code.

VDSL

Very high bit rate DSL Faster data tx over twisted pair compared to
HDSL., but less distance 300m. Can work symmetric (26mbps) or asymmetric
(52mbps/down 12mbps/up. Uses QAM or DMT .

The Terminal should be configured for

9600bit/s without flow control, 1 stop bit
and without parity bit. When configured
with Windows2000 , it is recommended not
to use the HyperTerminal , for it presents
some problems working on this platform. For
that, it is recommended to use the
TeraTerm , which is a freeware software and
can be acquired at the following web address:
