Concept of Grid-Connected Rooftop System

A grid-connected photovoltaic power system, or grid-connected PV system
is an electricity generating solar PV system that is connected to the utility
grid.
A grid-connected PV system consist of solar panels, one or several
inverters/power conditioning unit and grid connection equipment.
They range from small residential and commercial rooftop systems to large
utility-scale solar power stations.
Unlike stand-alone power systems, a grid-connected system does not
includes an integrated battery solution. When connected Load power
requirement is lower than the generated Solar power, the grid-connected PV
system supplies the excess power, beyond consumption by the connected
load, to the utility grid.

Grid Tie Inverters

System Overview

A grid-tie inverter is a power inverter that converts direct current (DC)

electricity into alternating current (AC) with an ability to synchronize with a
utility line.
Its applications are converting DC sources such as solar panels or small
wind turbines into AC for tying with the grid.

Factors driving Growth

Indian Scenario

Key Market Characteristics:

Preferential tariffs for utility scale projects from central & state governments.
Parity for commercial & industrial consumers has been achieved in some of the
states.
Policies:
15 States namely AP, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Himachal, J&K,
Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, UP, TN & Telengana have
come out with their Solar Policy supporting grid connected rooftop systems.
25 States/UTs have notified (draft & approved) the regulations that include promotion
of grid connected rooftop solar systems with net metering/feed-in-tariff mechanism.
Govt. of Haryana has already issued notification for mandatory installation of Solar PV
power Plants on Domestic and Commercial buildings having area > 500 Sq. Yds
