Example 1: Find the volume of 24 cm long of prism having
a cross-sectional of a right angled triangle of base 8 cm

Example 2: Calculate the base radius of the cylinder with a
volume of 2 200 cm3. and height 28 cm.
V = Area of cross-section x height (length)
Solution:

Volume is a measurement of the space filled by a unit.
Measurement in cubic unit.
1 cm3 (cubic centimetres) = 1 000 mm3 (cubic milimetres)
1 m3 (cubic metre) = 1 000 000 cm3 (cubic centimetres)
Example 1:
Convert 0.84 m3 in cm3.

Example 3:
Convert 7.9 cm3 in mm3.

= 0.84 x 1 000 000 cm3

= 7.9 x 1 000 mm3

= 840 000 cm3

= 7 900 mm3

Example 2:
Convert 243 000 mm3 in cm3.

Example 2:
Convert 615 200 cm3 in m3.

= 243 000 cm3

8.1C (ii) Changing Units For Liquid Volume


Volume is a measurement of the space filled by a unit.
Measurement unit for liquid volume.
1l (liter) = 1 000 ml (milimetres)
1 000 ml (mililiters) = 1 000 cm3 (cubic centimetres)
Example 1:
Convert 156 cm3 in ml3.

Example 3:
Convert 9 234 ml in l.

= 156 ml

= 9 234

Example 2:
Convert 14.8 l in ml.

= 9.234 l

= 14.8 x 1 000
= 14 800 ml
