TECHNOLOGY

POWER SOURCE:Input 240v (single phase) or 415v ( 2 live phases of 3 phase supply)
Output AC (O.C.V. 80v) or DC (O.C.V. 50v) or both.
AC for Shop
DC for site work as it is SAFER (lower OCV). Also for shop work..
Current adjustment control

TYPES:Transformers AC only
Transformer/Rectifiers AC and DC
Petrol or Diesel driven Generators Site work DC

TECHNOLOGY

ELECTRODE HOLDER - Insulated

WELDING LEADS (SUPPLY and RETURN)
Must be flexible and correct current rating. (Consider Duty
cycle) Insulated.

PPE
Safety visor (dark lens), gloves, leather apron, boots,
flameproof overalls, proper ventilation.
ELECTRODES correct specification and heat treatment.
ELECTRODE OVEN (If needed) - calibrated
HEATED QUIVER (If needed) - calibrated

TECHNOLOGY

ELECTRODE TYPES:BASIC
Needs baking to perform correctly
Low hydrogen potential - <5 ml H per 100g weld metal if baked correctly
Has best mechanical properties tensile strength and toughness
Used on critical welds and high strength steels
On thick section highly restrained welds to resist cracking
Poor bead profile
Lot of fume generation
Fast freezing slag
(assists when welding in vertical and
overhead positions) Slag coating more fluid than Rutile
electrodes
Difficult slag removal
High welding currents/speeds
Difficult to see difference between slag and weld
metal

TECHNOLOGY

RUTILE
General purpose electrode
Good mechanical properties
Easy arc ignition and smooth operation
Has best profile due to viscous slag
Easy slag removal
Welder friendly easy to use
Low fume levels
Can be dried but NOT baked
Can be used with AC or DC in all positions
Especially good for fillet welds in the HV position
Fast freezing weld metal and fluid slag.

TECHNOLOGY

CELLULOSIC
High in hydrogen - risk of cracking in the HAZ
Deep penetration in all positions due to high arc voltage
Rapid burn off rate giving fast welding speeds
Easy to use in any positions
Reasonable mechanical properties
Coarse weld deposits and small weld pool difficult slag removal
Used in STOVEPIPE welding technique (vertical down-pipelines)
Used where deep penetration is required
