How to Find God

in Ordinary Life
• Introduction:
• Do you live a roller-coaster Christian life?
• It may be due to an event-centered kind
spirituality. (“Sunday Christians”)
• Solution:
• Worship God and trust God 24/7
• Finding God in ordinary life will keep you from
“crashes” after “highs”.
1. We must trust God in everything
• We trust him in the major events of our life as well as
in the ordinary things.
• Ordinary life is not “not doing anything”.

• Prov 3:5-6
• 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not
on your own understanding;
• 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will
make your paths straight.
• We must rethink our idea of worship
• Worship is not the slow songs and praise
the fast songs.
• Worship is giving God extravagant
respect…in EVERYTHING. Every thought,
word, action, every melody we sing.
• Worship is making God happy.
• Think of God always. Think of His word always. Don’t
harden your heart to His voice. Don’t shut him out.

• Ps 63:6
• 6 On my bed I remember you; I think of you through
the watches of the night.
• Ps 1:2
• 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his
law he meditates day and night.
• Ps 119:97
• 97 Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.
• 2. Remember that God can speak to you in any ordinary
situation as well as in events and gatherings.
• Moses was tending the flock when the Lord appeared to him in
the bush
• Exod 3:1-2
• 1 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-
law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of
the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
• 2 There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of
fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was
on fire it did not burn up.
• Sometimes God speaks to me when I
water our plants
• 3. Remember that the Lord Jesus set you free from sin
and death. So even if you are washing dishes, doing
laundry, cleaning the toilet, YOU ARE FREE.
• Rom 6:18
• 18 You have been set free from sin and have become
slaves to righteousness.
• Rom 8:1-2
• Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who
are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law
of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and
death.
• Chores are not shackles.
• I’m sure even Cindy Jacobs does her own laundry and
dishes.
• Life is not all glamour. Life is not about being a big shot.
• Don’t upgrade your lifestyle too much such that ordinary
things become “beneath you”.
• 4. Remember that in the Bible, divine appointments and
release of favor occurred in living ordinary life excellently
and trusting

• The Story of Rebekah and Abraham’s servant

• Gen 24:14-15
• 14 May it be that when I say to a girl, 'Please let down
your jar that I may have a drink,' and she says, 'Drink, and
I'll water your camels too'-- let her be the one you have
chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you
have shown kindness to my master."
• 15 Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out
with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of
Bethuel son of Milcah, who was the wife of Abraham's
brother Nahor.
• Gen 24:18-21
• 18 "Drink, my lord," she said, and quickly lowered the jar to
her hands and gave him a drink.
• 19 After she had given him a drink, she said, "I'll draw
water for your camels too, until they have finished drinking."
• 20 So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back
to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his
camels.
• 21 Without saying a word, the man watched her closely to
learn whether or not the LORD had made his journey
successful.
• (NIV)
• The Story of Joseph in Potiphar’s household and
in prison

• Gen 39:1-6
• 1 Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt.
Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh's
officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from
the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.
• 2 The LORD was with Joseph and he prospered,
and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master.
• 3 When his master saw that the LORD was with
him and that the LORD gave him success in
everything he did,
• 4 Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his
attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and
he entrusted to his care everything he owned.
• 5 From the time he put him in charge of his household
and of all that he owned, the LORD blessed the household
of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the
LORD was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house
and in the field.
• 6 So he left in Joseph's care everything he had; with
Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything
except the food he ate. (NIV)
• Gen 39:20-23
• 20 Joseph's master took him and put him in prison, the place
where the king's prisoners were confined. But while Joseph was
there in the prison,
• 21 the LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and
granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.
• 22 So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the
prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there.
• 23 The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph's
care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success
in whatever he did.
• (NIV)
• We all know the story: Joseph interprets
the dreams of fellow prisoners. This
results in the divine appointment of
interpreting Pharaoh’s dream.
• Does this mean we will become leaders and
prime ministers if we do the laundry and clean
the house?

• Not everyone will experience the fantastic

promotion of Joseph from slave to head
employee to head prisoner to prime minister,
BUT:
• EVERYONE can trust God and see the Lord
move in his life and experience God’s favor
• Joseph did not wish to be prime minister, he just
wanted to be free
• Joseph told the cupbearer:
• Gen 40:14-15
• 14 But when all goes well with you, remember me
and show me kindness; mention me to Pharaoh and
get me out of this prison.
• 15 For I was forcibly carried off from the land of the
Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing to
deserve being put in a dungeon."
• Only God knew that he would be prime
minister.
• Pastor Lorenz Mapa shared:
• “God only gave him dreams of his family
bowing to him but God never specifically
said he would be prime minister. Follow
God and trust Him about the specifics.”
• We don’t know these things. But God
does.
• Pastor Charlie Cariño:
• “God did not call you to figure things out,
He called you to be a believer.”
• Do everything in the Lord’s name
• Col 3:17
• 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or
deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.
• (NIV)
• Work at whatever you do with all your heart.
• Do it excellently.

• Col 3:23-24
• 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as
working for the Lord, not for men,
• 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from
the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
• (NIV)
