INTRODUCTION
A rapid transit system serving Delhi, Gurgaon and

Noida in the National Capital Region of India.

Network consist of 6 lines.
140 stations out of which 35 are underground .
The power output is supplied by 25 kv, 50 Hertz
alternating current through overhead catenary.
Has a traffic carrying capacity as high as 60,00080,000 phpdt(peak hour peak direction traffic).
The metro has an average daily ridership of millions
of commuters.

ADVANTAGES
Requires 1/5th energy per passenger km. compared to road

based system.
Causes no air pollution in the city and lesser noise levels.
Occupies no road space if underground and only about 2 metre

width of the road, along central median, if elevated.

Is more reliable, comfortable and safer than road based system.
Reduces journey time by anything between 50% and 75%

depending on road conditions

Automatic Train Supervision(ATS)

ATS is a subsystem of Continuous Automatic Train

Control system (CATC) which automatically

monitors the entire system and directs train
running so as to provide scheduled service under
normal circumstances.
ATS Subsystem monitors the System Status
continuously and provides the appropriate
Controls to direct the Operation of Trains.
Using Networked Computers and Automated
Functions, ATS ensures efficient Rail Operation,
Automatic Monitoring and Control of Interlockings
through Automatic Train Tracking to Automatic
Route Setting.

Automatic Fare Collection(AFC)

The AFC is composed of:

One central computer for all system
One station computer for all stations
Several equipments ofdifferent types( Ticket
office machine,
bulkinitiation machine,
gate, portable ticket decoder)

FIBRE OPTIC TRANSMISSION SYSTEM (FOTS)

FOTS is the backbone ofcommunication in DMRC.
Optic fibers are used in this for transmission
ofdata. Transmission phenomenon is based on
the total internal reflection of light rays.
Advantages of using Optical Fibres over
conventional metal wire includes its Higher
carrying capacity with less destruction in signals
using low power. It is also less prone to theft in
comparizon with the copper cables.

PASSENGER INFORMATION DISPLAY SYSTEM (PIDS)/

PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM (PAS)
This system allows passengers to knowwhen the train
is expected to arrive , time left as wellas the
destination of the train. This system alsoallows the
data input transmission and diffusion of information
concerning the movement of train in real time to all
station users and the same for the application in the
main centre using Ultra Bright LEDDisplay Panels. This
system has several functions such as displaying train
scheduling information & data related to train
circulation like arrival and departure time.

AUTOMATIC TRAIN CONTROL (ATC)

Automatic train control(ATC) is a general class of

train protection systemsforrailwaysthat involves a speed
control mechanism in response to external inputs. ATC
systems tend to integrate variouscab signallingtechnologies
and they use more granular deceleration patterns in lieu of
the rigid stops encountered with the older
automatic train stoptechnology. ATC can also be used with
automatic train operation(ATO) and is usually considered to

Displaying Reduced
Operation Speed (ROS)

a: ROS Key - Used to select ROS mode, b: Unused key

c: TRR key- Used to indicates ATS (Automatic Train Supervision) that train is ready for dispatch
d: UP scroll key- Used to scroll information in up direction in the MENU and monitoring status
line area
e: Down scroll key Used to scroll information in down direction in the MENU and monitoring
status line area

A TRACK CIRCUIT typically has power applied to each rail and a relay coil
wired across them. When no train is present, the relay is energised by the
current flowing from the power source through the rails. When a train is
present, its axles short (shunt) the rails together; the current to the track relay
coil drops, and it is de-energised. Circuits through the relay contacts therefore
report whether or not the track is occupied.

SIGNAL ASPECTS
Red :Stop Route not set and locked or first
track circuit after the signal is occupied.
Violet :Conditional Proceed Route is set
and locked and the first track circuit after the
signal is clear or the green aspect is failed. For
running on site mode, Violet means STOP.
Green: Proceed Route set and locked and
the track circuits to the next route signals are
clear and the overlap locked if necessary.

EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION TECHNIQUES

TETRA RADIO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM ( In case of
suspicious explosive object within vicinity of 50Meters or
150 feet, use of Radio Transmission should be avoided)
