Lab Introduction:

Emphasizes on communication techniques

Firstly, Analog modulation techniques like Amplitude Modulation (AM), Double Side Band Suppressed Carrier (DSB SC), Single Side Band
Suppressed Carrier (SSB SC), and Frequency Modulation (FM)

Then, Digital modulation techniques like Amplitude Shift Keying (ASK), Frequency Shift Keying (FSK), Phase Shift Keying (PSK), and after
that Pulse Code Modulation (PCM)

Aims & Objectives:

Analysis of communication signals in time domain and frequency domain

Learn to design, simulate, assemble, measure, and evaluate many types of Communication Circuits using laboratory instruments and also
revalidate their results by using Matlab

Hardware:

Communication Systems Trainer (KL 900A) by KING Instruments Electronics

Software:

Matlab (Simulink)

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)

Program Learning Outcomes

(PLOs)

CLO_1

Express working knowledge of the equipment needed to

ensure data transfer among different communication
systems and also state knowledge of modulating
techniques as well as measuring various attributes of
signals using oscilloscope, and spectrum analyzer

PLO_01

CLO_2

Develop & demonstrate a project/application by applying

the concepts and techniques from theoretical knowledge
and investigate different blocks in this project

Project:
The techniques covered in Analog and Digital Communication systems must be a major component
The students will work on projects in a group of (Min 2 and Max 3) students
Proposal, 15% of 20 numbers (3 marks): Project Proposal per group should include block diagram, circuit
diagram, and brief description of the project, role and responsibilities of each group member
Mid Project Presentation, 25% of 20 numbers (5 marks): A ten minute oral presentation in which the progress
of each group member is desired to be listed with certain results obtained by him/her. At the time of the
presentation you have to submit the hard copy of the presentation to the evaluator(s)
Design Objective, 35% of 20 numbers (7 marks): Project with full working condition along with 20 minutes
presentation is expected to be delivered
Project Report, 25% of 20 numbers (5 marks): A formal report presenting the theory, scope and the working of
the project should be submitted at the time of final demonstration of the project. The report should be of 12 point
font size , with Times New Romans Style, and should be printed out on A 4 paper size, with maximum number of
3 5 pages. The report should be following IEEE format of research paper.
