FACTORS AFFECTING STUDY HABITS

OF WORKING STUDENTS

Background
Working today are fundamentals responsibility for many
undergraduates, but understanding how employment affects
students educational experiences is complicated by how student
work. Many students must work to pay the costs of attending
college(Perna,2010).
According to (Kasworm, 2010) stated that for other students,
particularly adult student, Work is a part of their identity.
According to the National Center of Education Statistics, in
2007 nearly half (45 percent) of traditional undergraduates that
is students between the ages of sixteen and twenty-four attending
college full time worked while enrolled. About 80 percent of
traditional age undergraduates attending college part time work
while enrolled.

Sembrano, (2010) reported that Manila Philippines- about 216,

000 students in the country are currently juggling school and work,
according to latest data from Commission on Higher Education
(CHED).
Vitriolo (2010) added that, Students are forced to work
because of higher commodity prices and tuition fees. The
CHED said that only 50% of working students get to finish
college, as many cannot cope and cannot concentrated on
their studies, while some have poor health, while others
give up because of insufficient funds.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

1. What is the profile of the respondents in
terms of the following:
Age
Gender
Course
Year

2. What are the responses of the working students among the

different factors affecting their study habits in terms of:

Time

Management

Teacher
The

Environment

State

of Health

Financial
Academic

Responsibilities
Family

3. If there a significant difference on the study

habits of the working students when grouped
according to profile?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Working Student

The working students will be aware

regarding the factors affecting study habits.
They will learn to manage their time very
well.

Teacher

The teachers will be the one to offer

necessary assistance in terms of academic
crises. The students will benefit from the
teacher in terms of giving extra time on
projects/assignments submission.

Administration

The administration manage the

school and understand the learning and
support needs of working students.

Parents

The parents will become

understandable to their childrens
situation. They are aware not to give
them too much responsibility in their
house because, they see that it can affect
to their study.

METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study utilized the descriptive

research design to determine the Factors
Affecting the Study Habit of Working
Students

RESPONDENTS

The respondents of this study were the

working students of Southern Baptist
College. It consisted of _____Male and
____Female with the total of ____________
It was randomly selected.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS

In gathering the data, the researchers used a

survey questionnaire.
The survey questionnaire was contained of
two parts. Part I dealt with the respondents
profile and Part II dealt with the factors
study habits among college students.
The survey questionnaire was adopted from
the study entitled Factors Affecting Study
Habits of Working Students, conducted by
the researchers.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

The researcher had undergone the

following procedures:
The researcher agreed what study will be
conducted. The researcher prepared a series
of questions to be asked for the interview.
During the interview, the researcher assist
them in giving a survey questionnaire .The
problems are immediately identified, based
on the data gathered.
The researcher sought additional
information regarding the study, through
online resources and persons that were
involved in the task. Lastly, the findings
and end result of the study were solve the
percentage of the given questioner.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT OF DATA

To determine the profile of the respondents in

terms of age, gender, course and year, the researcher
used the frequency method and percentage.
Mean was used in determining the average responses
of the respondents on the factors affecting their study
habits.
To determine the significant difference on the study
habits of the working students who grouped
according to Profile, T-test and Analysis or Variance
(ANOVA) was used.
The researcher used the software Statistical Package
for the Social Sciences Package for the (SPSS) to
arrive at much accurate computation of the data
processed for t-test and Analysis or Variance
(ANOVA)
