High efficiency pump should

be selected for low energy
cost. Best efficiency is
possible for specific speed in
the range of 2000-3000 U.S.
units & with discharge of
above 10000 GPM ,with
750RPM at head 70 to 100 m.

Considering safety it is advisable

to use LT Motor for submerged
applications. Availability of HT
Submerged motor in India is very
rare. Reputed manufacturer such
as BHEL, Crompton Greaves ,
Geaumont Electric,etc doesnt
manufacture HT Submerged motor.
HT Submerged motor with proven
technology are available outside
India. Hence it limits scope of
repairability within short period.

If submergence of water is beyond 18 mtr

then use floating application
For maintenance point of view Pump directly
immersed in canal is not recommended
Approach velocity within sump limited to 0.3
m/s
Length and width of sump same as that of VT
pump
Depth of sump should be decided as per the
minimum submergance required to avoid
cavitation and motor cooling

Monorail /HOT/EOT must be provided to lift

Height of corbel top of EOT above service
bay floor should be adequete to
accommodate height of pump motor
assembly and that can be finalised by Mech
wing
MS structure with concrete support will be
preffered structure== to be finalised by CDO
Control room should be above HFL and closer
to pumps for watch
Service bay should be provided above HFL for
maintenance facility

Closed and protected room should be there

for safty of machinaries== to be finalised by
CDO.
Approach road should come upto service bay

Guided installation is preferred for ease of

maintenance.
When there is no limitation for width of
sump then horizontal mounting is preffered
as it reduces sump depth.
Trashrack or screens should be provided at
entry of sump to remove floating debris.

To be finalised by CDO

Manifold will be independent of pump type

Decision should be taken by considering life

cycle cost analysis.
1.Initial costs 2.Energy costs 3.Other costs
4.Maintenance costs

Height of motor , bearing ,motor stool varies

for different pump manufacturers.
For surface delivery pumps the large dia
delivery pipes creates trouble in pump
operation and usability . Also increasesload
on pump floor.
It will be preferred to use subsurface
delivery pumps for HP above 1000.It will help
to reduce excessive loading on motor floor.
