childs ESL pochette two documents
that you need to read carefully:

ESL Contract/Agreement

ESL Contract/Agreement
All families MUST sign the new ESL
contract/agreement.
In short this contract/agreement stipulates several
important pieces of information that parents MUST be
aware of and sign off on:
- each childs ESL class level;
- teacher(s)/contact info/website;
- both the school and parental role in ESL in and out
of school;
- childs/family preparation for ESL classes;
- process for admission to bilingual program (if that
is a goal in mind for the child);
- process and timing whereby a child is moved up or
down
ESL classes.

What is being taught in ESL


CP/CE1/CE2:
4 ESL lessons per week

4 competencies:
- Reading and writing
- Aural comprehension and
speaking

EMILE (lEnseignement dune Matire par

CLIL (Content and Learning Integrated Language)

All classes from GS to CM2 benefit


from one 45 min lesson per week

in English depending on the students
ability.

Changes within the groups


Changes can occur around Chinese
New Year, after evaluations and
discussion amongst the ESL team are
completed.
Parents will be informed immediately.

Meeting with the teacher


The teacher will contact you if they
have any concerns during the year or
to give you any necessary feedback.
Please email your childs teacher if you
have any concerns or wish to meet
with them to discuss your childs
progress.

Each Friday the ESL teacher will add a
brief note to weebly so you know what
has been happening in the classroom.

Transfer to the Bilingual


Program
Only students in an advanced group are eligible for
the Bilingual Program.
*Inform Mr. Alain Dubourg adubourg@lfis.edu.hk of
your desire to apply for admission to the Bilingual
Program.

The date of enrolment is the only reference for the


students ranking on the list. (Same rankings/list
remains from one year to the next. Children move up
the list as children above them either accept or
withdraw.)
Bilingual commission: February 2017
Admission is based on approval first from the French
class teacher, and then the ESL teacher. ALL decisions
are
made as a TEAM each childs
application considered
carefully with input from all
teachers and staff.

How to help your child


progress
Give your child every opportunity to express
her/himself in English (in shops, taxis )
Reading (ask questions to make sure they
understand the contents; comprehension in
any language is fundamental to your childs
growth)
Books of ALL types, online educational
games/activities, videos, sports, playdates,
practice together, etc.
