Major impacts of Social media

Touch screen technology:

Apps:

Touch screen technology was invented by E.A.

Johnson at the Royal Radar Establishment, in
Malvern, UK around 1967. It was not until Apple
began using it in 2008 where its popularity into
the main stage really began.

Formerly known as PDAs and mobile computers,

the first ever app dates back to the mid 1980s in
England. Years later it would transform into the
PalmPilot, Nokia 6110, and thanks to Steve Jobs
the smartphones that we have today.

Information Literacy
Information Literacy is the ability to recognize
when information is needed and have the ability
to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the
needed information.
When used in conjunction with social media
applications, users tend to face difficulties in
assessing proper usage.

Why it matters
Media and information literacy matter because
people all walks of life need to deconstruct media
messages and critique the quality of information
sources.

Some challenges the social media environment

faces:
1. We all have the power to be publishers but few are trained to do so
2. Mass Media are full accounts of the dangers of predators using your
public information
3. Inappropriate and illegal communication
4. The soaring popularity of personal websites that can cause
commotion or confusion.
