General Visual Inspection require the use of a flashlight, a

mirror, marker tape and a note pad to write down defects
in detail.

Note visual defects and mark where defects

are located with marking tape.

Examples of general defects when checking connectors are:

aspects of the connectors wiring, connector backshell, cable
ties, broken safety wire and connector locking mechanism.

Examples of general defects when checking clamps are:

missing hardware, condition of the grommets and are
wires
touching the metallic part of the clamp?

Inspect general condition of conduits. Check for bends

or if broken.

Splices, grounding points and terminals must be checked.

Insulation, the tongs, the barrels and the retaining sleeves
must be checked for damage, cuts, burns, etc.

Check wire bundles for sagging. Check up and down stream

of the sagging for too much tension or reduced length and
redistribute the sag length.

Check wiring supports for protection, attachment and

ruptures. Check that there is no deformation and that it
is in the correct position to avoid chaffing.

Check conduits are not flattened and that there are in the
right position and allow draining.

The Detailed Inspection is an intensive examination of a

Specific item, installation or assembly to detect damage,
failure or irregularity.

Touching the items to be inspected is necessary to

help the inspection.

Inspection aids such as Mirrors and magnifying

glasses maybe necessary.

During wiring inspection loose bundles may appear.

Make sure that the harnesses are properly attached.
Check that separation is maintained.

Mark the location of the defects with marking tape.

The loss of spacing can occur with bundles due to over length.

It is mandatory to follow all repair solutions given in the Airbus

aircraft technical documentation.

Make sure the connectors are securely locked. Make sure

there are no broken parts by applying a light force on the
connectors.

For clamps make sure the bundle does not move in its
attachment. Check the terminals are correctly fixed.

Check that there is no liquid inside the conduits. Make sure

there is a drain hole when necessary at the lowest part of
the conduit. Insure the drain hole is not obstructed.

If necessary, make a
new drain hole with
the appropriate tool

Check the braided sheaths by feeling around the conduit

with your hand.

Before making any maintenance modification you must

first protect the work area. Protect yourself with eye
protection and gloves.

When the work is done remove any debris on the protection

then remove the protection. Clean the work area after the
work is complete. Inspect the area after cleaning.

You just might prevent a tragedy!
