The Situation
Was
Hosted by Canterbury DHB
from 2006
After earthquakes in
Christchurch 2011 relocated
to Waikato.
Outsourced hosting,
hardware plus services
bundled.
Easy to procure.
Near capacity.

Change to
Private Cloud Sep/Oct 2014
replaced: datacentre, domain,
network, hardware and supplier
management.
Hybrid of Risk/Reward for all
More capacity: to meet
additional business outcomes
with stability
Increased capacity: normal in a
hardware refresh
Increased performance: is
possible in a hardware refresh
not guaranteed
Success needed for roadmap to
extend.

Why Oracle Database Appliances

Next generation preconfigured platform
Not wanting an engineering project to assemble hardware.
Embodies years of Oracle whitepaper advice.

Like buying a Car.

Could make from spare parts, Popular Mechanics or buy factory
assembled.
Wanted uniformity, serviceability and performance of the Factory
Assembled and Configured outcome.

We had more time and focus to expend effort on

Delivering the outcomes

User Anecdotes
We certainly feel we have a more secure and better
understood environment.
Month-End/Year-End. Previously we locked out users. Now
everyone stays in and complete processing with no noticable
impact.
Performance is difficult to say as we are used to this
environment now so it is difficult to remember what it was
like. Rose thinks it is faster now than it was before.

Management Anecdotes
Before: Was unsure each and every day whether we
would have a working system by the following morning
and it DID keep me awake.
After: Not given it a moments thought.
Chief Financial Officer
General Manager, Corporate Services
Bay of Plenty District Health Board

The ODAs perform much better and are more stable than
what we had previously, and we have a lot of confidence
working with the Oracle Support team.
Finance & Procurement Systems Manager | CDHB | 68863

Management Anecdotes
Certainly much more stable than we previously had! I
have not heard anything detrimental in regard to support
so would suggest this is same or better than previously
GM Finance
Canterbury District Health Board & West Coast District Health Board

The time spent on resolving support and availability

issues since the move to Oracle ODA infrastructure has
reduced by over 90% which means we can focus on
other activities that deliver value for the DHB
Programme Manager Corporate Services | Waikato District Health Board

Management Anecdotes
Ive been through several Oracle and JDE
implementations/upgrades and with the exception of this
projectin all of them the infrastructure workstream was
hard sizing, configuration, database management,
indexing, connectivity, printing issues and I will be
forgetting a whole lot.
During the project I waited for the issues to emerge and
they did not.
It actually felt far too easy, but it worked.
