Muscular Power
Muscular Power is to generate as much force as
possible this relates to Garry Ablett when he is laying a
tackle or bumping someone off the play.

Speed
The rate which a performer can run a set amount of
distance. He uses his speed to run after opponents
when they have the ball or to out run his opponents to
get the ball.

Agility
The ability to weave gracefully through opponents as
they are trying to tackle you. A drill that he uses to
improve his agility is weaving in and out of cones. This
ability to easily weave his way, in and out of opponents
is a major part of his football game.

Coordination
The ability to use different parts of your body at once.
He uses this when he has to run and kick the football at
the same time. He is one of the elite players who can
does this very efficiently and on both sides of his body.

Balance
Balance is similar to coordination, he needs to keep
balance when he is trying to pick up the ball close to
the ground and someone is trying to bump him over.

Anaerobic capacity
Anaerobic capacity is the total amount of energy used
without using much oxygen. This helps him when he is
constantly running up and down the field calling for the
ball. He usually runs around 6 to 10 kms a game.

Muscular Endurance
Muscular endurance The ability to repeat an exercise
for an extended period of time. This helps him at
training when he is constantly kicking the ball.

Vertical Jump being able to out mark your opponent to
take a mark
Aerobic capacity/ endurance Being able to run up
and down the field to attack or defend all game and
still have some energy
Short burst running Being able to run and chase your
opponent when he has the ball

How long does he train for?


He trains for 36 hour a week. He gets to the Football
Club around 10 am and leaves around 3.30. When he
get there he does some light exercises such as jogging/
stretching. He does 5 kicks on the left and 5 on the
right so he can kick on both sides. He aims to kick the
ball into the bin so he can improve his accuracy.
