What

is Distributed Generation (DG)?

Generate

energy power based on site

consumption

Apply

concept independency avoid loss in cost,

difficulty and inefficiency

Direct

Hybrid

Renewable Energy System

(HRES)
Combination
Example:-

of different energy system

solar and diesel generator

Research Background

First wind farm in Malaysia Pulau Terumbu LayangLayang, Sabah

First solar/wind turbine hybrid system Pulau

Perhentian, Terengganu

Solar/diesel hybrid system - Kalabakan, Sabah

Problem Statement

Problem?

Is enough power generation to fulfil the power demand?

Can hybrid renewable generation reliable to supply load profile?

Is selected area give a best choosing of renewable energy for

make hybrid generation system?

Objective?

To gain feasibility study of HRES for island electrification

To design and modelling HRES for island area

To simulate the design in low cost operation

To aim the best hybrid configuration at accepted level of

electrification

Literature Review of Papers/Journals

Title

1. A significant scheme of distributed

generation system using wind-solardiesel applying in island (Jie Shu,
Xianyong Zhang, YuLiang Shen)

Conclusion

2. Modelling and Cost Analysis of Hybrid

Energy System for St. Martin Island
Using HOMER
(Nasif Mahmud, Asif Hassan, Md
Shamiur Rahman)

The wind energy is chosen to be the

priority and the solar energy is the
supplement.
This hybrid power supply system
greatly reduces the cost of electricity.
Harmless to the environment and
provides the power support for the
tourist industry and economic
development of the sea island.
The whole system runs effectively
Amount of non-renewable energy
sources is decreasing day by day.
Not feasible to use only diesel as a
source of energy generation
nowadays.
Hybrid energy generation system
can be feasible and optimized
solution.
PV-diesel-wind-battery hybrid
generation system was found most
feasible and optimized.

3. Optimal Planning of Off-Grid Solar

Wind-Tidal Hybrid Energy System for
Sandwip Island of Bangladesh
(Nishat Anjum Khan, Amit Kumar Sikder,
Shammya Shananda Saha)

In the coastal area alternate energy

sources are needed to meet up the
demand.
Renewable energy resources like
solar, wind, tidal etc. can be a
potential solution.
A hybrid power system including
solar, wind and tidal energy is
feasible and cost effective.
The proposed system includes diesel
generator which increases the
reliability of the system.
According to the simulation results
the projected hybrid system is
economically feasible as
decentralized or grid interactive
system.
Proposed system can be an effective
solution of energy crisis in the
Sandwip island of Bangladesh.

Methodology

Demand

Using accurate load from the label

of the power rating on the
appliances to compute the power
rating
Multiply the calculated rate and
expected number of hours per day
and sum it all up

System.

Combining one or more

renewable energy sources with
conventional energy source.
Decided to use generator
HRES.

Simulation

Optimization and design the

HRES model in HOMER (Hybrid
Optimization of Multiple Energy
Resources) software.

Conclusion
For

final year project 2 I need to:

Calculate

and finalize all the component (rating

and type of the solar panel, wind turbine,
inverter, and storage from the expected load
demand)

To

make sure need to be use to implement in the
