Utah Virtual Academy regards parent involvement vital to the academic success of students. Parents
serve as partners with the school in helping their children achieve academic success.
Utah Virtual Academy will involve parents in the development of its school plan.
The school will interview at least two parents from each area within the school (elementary, middle school,
high school) to facilitate the development of the school plan. Information, including academic data,
teacher qualifications, and instructional strategies will be provided to all parents in the school at the
beginning of the school year.
Parents will be given time to review information, attend scheduled meetings and then may be asked to
give input into the development of the school plan.
The UTVA School Board will give final approval of the school plan.
Utah Virtual Academy will involve parents in the process of school review and improvement.
Invite input from parents regarding LEA and school academic goals.
Provide families with research-based curriculum materials that align with goals.
Utah Virtual Academy will provide coordination and technical assistance to promote quality parent
involvement activities.
At least twice during the year, school leadership discuss parent involvement in school leadership meetings across
departments to maximize coordination and effective use of resources.
Provide annual training to school administrators and teachers on effective parent involvement strategies.
Utah Virtual Academy will build the school and parent capacity for strong parent involvement.
Schedule an annual parent involvement seminar to build effective parent involvement strategies.
Utah Virtual Academy will coordinate parent involvement strategies with other programs.
Representatives from other programs (i.e. ALP, ELL) will be encouraged to cosponsor the annual parent involvement
seminar with Title I.
School leaders who have responsibility for overseeing parent involvement activities will meet at least twice a year to
discuss plans and coordinate efforts.
Every six to eight weeks, parents will be asked to complete a Parent Pulse Check Survey and provide input on how the
school might improve support for parents and students.
At the end of the school year, the leadership team will review a summary of the Parent Pulse Check survey with its plans
to address identified needs and recommendations.
Utah Virtual Academy will ensure that UTVA is involving parents in a variety of school activities.
Periodically require each school to submit a report of successful parent involvement activities.
In the annual training for administrators and teachers, the school will share identified successful parent involvement
activities. They will be encouraged to share ideas with PTSO Presidents.
Principals will annually report to the school how they use Title I funds to support effective parent involvement strategies.
