ABSTRACT
Problem
The common mishap that most people have is that aerobics on land is a better
workout, because you focuses on one specific part of the body at a time.
Solution
Water aerobics is physically better on your body, because the water renders
resistance in all directions, compared to aerobics done on land that only gives
you resistance against gravity. the water performs like a shock absorber for the
weight the body puts on the joints reducing the stress.
Benefits
Less sweating during your workout
Less stress on your joints
You feel much lighter in water making it a lot easier to workout

What is Water Aerobics?

Water aerobics (waterobics, aquatic fitness,
aquafitness, aquafit) is the performance of
aerobic exercise in fairly shallow water such as
in a swimming pool. Done mostly vertically and
without swimming typically in waist deep or
deeper water, it is a type of resistance training.
Water aerobics is a form of aerobic exercise that
requires water-immersed participants. Most
water aerobics is in a group fitness class setting
with a trained professional teaching for about an
hour (Wikipedia).

The History of Water Aerobics

Many, many years ago, therapy in water was not just used for religions reasons, but for
medical reasons as well. Over time, the use of water for therapy and healing purposes fell in
and out of favor, according to the Mores of the era (Strange). By the 20 th century, therapy in
water came back into play and is a recognized technique for therapy and aerobic exercise.
From Asia to Greece, as early as 2400 bc, immersion in water was viewed as a religious
experience and a method of healing. By 1500 bc, water was used to reduce fevers and by 800
bc was used for healing in Bath, England. The Greeks and then the Romans believed that
water had curative powers, using it to treat arthritic joints and other conditions. By 500 ad, the
use of water and baths fell into disfavor. It wasn't until the 1700s that water as medicine came
back into use, with the development of hydrotherapy by German doctor Sigmund Hahn
(Strange).

Water Aerobics Equipment

Water dumbbells heighten endurance and strength
when used in a water aerobics class. Dumbbells
are used in waist or chest deep water aerobics
exercises.
Water gear fan paddles have changeable fan
blades to alter resistance. They are geared towards
building up the strength in your upper body
Aquatic fitness gloves are used for resistance.
Water flotation foam tubes helps you float in the
water while you work out. There are a lot of other
equipment used for water aerobics these are just a
few.

Less Sweating During Your Workout

Have you ever wanted to have a sweat free
workout? Then water aerobics is the way to go.
Doing water aerobics gives you the illusion that
you are not sweating, because your body is
submerged in water.
If you are sweating you dont think you are,
because you are splashing around in the water,
you think the water has splashed in your face.
You can go at a slower pace in water aerobics
then you would if you were doing aerobics on
land and still get the same workout, this would
produce less sweat.

Less Stress On Your Joints

Water aerobics is physically better on your body,

because the water renders resistance in all
directions, compared to aerobics done on land that
only gives resistance against gravity.
The water performs like a shock absorber for the
weight the body puts on the joints reducing the
stress.
Waters buoyancy virtually eliminates the effect
of gravity supporting 90 percent of the bodys
weight for reducing impact and greater flexibility.
For example a 140 lbs (63kg) person weighs only
14 lbs (6kg) in the water (Benefits of Exercising
in water).

Less Stress on Your Joints

Continuation
In 2011 I was diagnosed as having severe
arthritis in my right hip, because of an
accident I had. I did water aerobics for the
low impact on the hip joint to try to
strengthen it, because at the time that was
the only form of exercise I could do unless
I would be in severe pain. Then in 2013, I
ended up having a total hip replacement
and part of my rehabilitation was water
aerobics to get my flexibility and strength
back in my hip.

A Total Body Workout

Water aerobics gives you a total
body workout, because while
you move through the water it
gives you a cardio and resistance
training both at the same time.
Working out in the water
permits you to exercise almost
every joint and muscle in your
body.

A TOTAL BODY WORKOUT

CONTINUATION
Water aerobics is great for
rehabilitation after surgery and
great for strengthening your
muscles.

Conclusion
As you can see water aerobics is an all
over body workout, with less sweating
and less stress on your joints. Water
aerobics is not only for the elderly
which some people may think, its a
great work out for all ages. And guys
this is something you can do as well,
using that total body workout to keep
up your physiques.
