As a country we arent diverse at all

because the ones that I listed are tied
into Christianity.

As shown on the last slide

there are different religions
listed and the comparison
was between Utah and the
rest of America.

There is no doubt that

Christianity is one of the
most popular religions as
shown in the previous slides
they make about half of the
population.

Utah is a Mormon state but

when the comparison to the
rest of the Nation it makes
Mormonism a minor religion.

They have a great relationship with the
community as well as neighboring
churches.
On Thanksgiving Day they feed the
homeless along with people in need.
Every Sunday after worship they have a
social coffee hour.

Challenge:
A challenge that they have been
faced with recently is the passing
of their Priest. They are in
mourning. He was a Priest at Holy
Trinity Cathedral since 1999. The
lady at the Church was very
emotional. They are waiting to
hear from their Bishop in Denver
to assign them a new Priest.
Demographics
They have had people travel from
Greece, California, Canada, NYC,
Chicago and many more places to
tour their Cathedral as well as
attend their services.

While they dont have events that happen on a
daily basis, they have weekly/monthly events,
such as:

Women's and Men's Bible Study
Other administrative meetings.
Relationship with the community:
Weekly Fellowship Breakfast Before
worship on Sundays for homeless,
congregation, or other.

Who worships here:
Theyre a multi-ethnic congregation with about
10-14 different nationalities that attend on any
given Sunday, including, Tongan, Native
American, Urdu, Latino, African-American,
Korean, Japanese, China and from multiple
countries in Africa. They have rich, poor and the
homeless. Their welcome knows no boundaries
of age, race, ethnicity, culture, gender, gender
identity, sexual orientation, economic condition,
physical or mental ability.
Female Pastor:
Elizabeth McVicker is the first female Pastor at
First United Methodist Church.
The United Methodist Church has been
ordaining women for 50 years.

Conclusion:

It was interesting to all of us to see how diverse the faiths in Utah

were. Even though the population of each religion wasnt huge, we
were surprised to see the variety that was provided.

Another point to consider was the percentage of people that claimed

they believed they were nothing in particular. We think that the
18% of this category would be much higher in other major cities
around the nation, but it was unusual in such a religiously centered
state that this many people would not have a declared belief.
