Purpose:
The purpose of Special Education is to enable the
equitable participation of students with special needs
in the educational system in British Columbia.
Special Needs:
Students with special needs have disabilities of an
intellectual, physical, sensory, emotional, or
behavioural nature, or have a learning disability or have

* Notify the principal that your child has an IEP
and/or behaviour support plan.
* Provide a copy of your childs IEP to the

* Outreach Wellness and Learning (OWL)

A short-term, often part-time program, supporting students who have

mental health issues. Students learn skills in mental health awareness
and coping skills, as well as in self-regulation.
* VAST Learning Centre
Designed for youth who are currently struggling with behaviour, social,
emotional and/or addiction issues. VAST also provides adult graduation
completion to students who are over 18 years of age.
* Adventure-Based Outdoor Learning (ABOUT)
Innovative approach to service delivery for vulnerable students aged 14
to 19. The programs personalized learning approach allows learners
the chance to stabilize in a supportive atmosphere that promotes
success, self-esteem and confidence.
* Ravens Lelum Teen Parent Learning Centre
A safe, holistic, inclusive and culturally focused program for young
parents. Students are supported alongside their children to fulfill their
academic goals. The program provides a safe place, where students
feel pride in who they are and find a sense of belonging.
