CONTROLLING RESOURCES
Any organization requires its recourses to be managed in a proper way
so as to ensure the maximum efficiency and output in their
production lines.
Production Planning is the process of deciding what to produce, when to
produce, how much to produce with the available resources in hand.
Objectives of production planning are as follows:
To ensure right quantity and quality of raw material, equipment,
etc. are available during times of production.
To ensure capacity utilization is in tune with forecast demand at
all the time.
A well thought production planning ensures that overall production
process is streamlined providing following benefits:
Organization can deliver a product in a timely and regular
manner.
Supplier are informed will in advance for the requirement of raw
materials.
It reduces investment in inventory.
It reduces overall production cost by driving in efficiency.

Resource control in production planning looks to utilize different type of

control techniques to achieve optimum performance out of the
available resources so as to achieve overall production planning
targets. Therefore, objectives of controlling the resources in
production planning are:
Regulate inventory management
Organize the production schedules
Avoid delay in production line
Optimum utilization of resources and production process
The advantages of robust control processes are as follows:
Ensure a smooth flow of all production processes
Ensure production cost savings by avoiding stock outs
Control wastage of resources
It maintains standard of quality through the production life cycle.

CONTROLLING STORAGE WAREHOUSING

Why do you need to store your goods?
Seasonal Production
Large-scale Production
Quick Supply
Continuous Production
Price Stabilization
The storage within the warehouse can be controlled in two
different manners:
1. Process Oriented Storage: The materials are stored in the way
in which they are used for the processes that has to be
performed. Same materials will be present in different locations
if they are required by different processes.
2. Layout-oriented Storage: Here the same type of material is
stored in a particular location. They are moved to the
corresponding location whenever required.

Warehousing refers to the activities involving storage of goods

on a large-scale in a systematic and orderly manner and
making them available conveniently when needed. In other
words, warehousing means holding or preserving goods in
huge quantities from the time of their purchase or
production till their actual use or sale.
Issues Affecting Warehousing:
Type of Material to be handled
Warehouse facility: type, size and location
Inventory and Inventory Location
Market and Product base stability
Choice Of Unit Load

Controlling the storage using different warehouses:

Private Warehouses: The warehouses which are owned and
managed by the manufacturers or traders to store, exclusively,
their own stock of goods.

Public Warehouses:

The warehouses which are run to store

goods of the general public.

Government Warehouses: These warehouses are owned,

managed and controlled by central or state governments or
public corporations or local authorities.

Bonded Warehouses: These warehouses are owned, managed

and controlled by government as well as private agencies.

Co-operative Warehouses: These warehouses are owned,

managed and controlled by co-operative societies

CONTROLLING LOGISTICS
Logistic management consists of formulating strategies, planning,
steering and control of the process oftransfer and storage of
materials, supplies of products in progress, finished goods and
relevant information, from the point of acquiring the places of
consumption, in order to adjust to and fulfill the customer's needs.
Controlling assumes a comprehensive and complex approach towards
an enterprise, so as to detect bottlenecks in time, design methods
to eliminate them and, in the case of deviations from the planned
volumes, to suggest the correction activities
The main fields within logistics include:
Procurement Logistics
Production Logistics
Distribution Logistics
Disposal Logistics

1. Procurement Logistics is the entire process used to select suppliers

and negotiate contracts for delivery of goods or services. It consists
of activities such as market research, requirements planning, make
or buy decisions, supplier management, ordering, and order
controlling.
2. Production Logistics concerns itself with streamlining and controlling
the flow through the supply chain from point of entry to the end,
which is distribution logistics. Production logistics activities are
related to organizational concepts, layout planning, production
planning, and control.
3. Distribution Logistics is concerned with the delivery of finished
products to the customer. It consists of order processing,
warehousing, and transportation. Major sub-sectors within the
industry include air, rail, water, and truck transportation. Logistics
involve the integration of these sub sectors, including information,
transportation, inventory, warehousing, material-handling, and
packaging.
4. Disposal Logistics, also known as reverse logistics, stands for all
operations related to the reuse of products and materials. The main
function of this field is to reduce logistics cost, enhance service, and
save natural resources.

Logistics outsourcing involves a relationship between a company and

an LSP (logistic service provider), which, compared with basic
logistics services, has more customized offerings, encompasses a
broad number of service activities, is characterized by a long-term
orientation, and thus has a strategic nature
Third-party logistics(3PL) involves using external organizations to
execute logistics activities that have traditionally been performed
within an organization itself. If a company with its own warehousing
facilities decides to employ external transportation, this would be an
example of third-party logistics.
