(ROB / RUB) IN LIEU OF LC NO 6 ALONG RAIYA

PREAMBLE BRIDGES
For any bridge project is divided mainly in three parts :
Prefeasibility Report
Feasibility Report / Preliminary Project Report
Detailed Project Report
Prefeasibility Report :
Project preparation work start with the identification of the project This
phase is known as Prefeasibility. Which includes
Possible location
Nature of crossing
Traffic dispersal system for different alternatives
The Reconnaissance visit to the area of the intended bridge site is sufficient
at this stage.

PREAMBLE BRIDGES
Feasibility Report :
Feasibility stage preliminary surveys, data collections and investigations
are carried out.
Alternative sites are investigated
Preliminary design & rough cost estimate are made for various alternatives
Recommended alignment including
Span arrangement
Total length
Land acquisition
Traffic studies
Viability of Approaches
Preliminary cost estimate
Economic & financial viability
Time schedule for all activities
If require then 3 D images , 3 D Models etc.

PREAMBLE BRIDGES
DETAILED PROJECT REPORT:
The third stage is known as detailed project report.
In this stage detailed surveys & investigations are carried out on approved
alignment
Detailed GAD can worked out
Detailed design & good for execution drawings for all component :
Substructure, superstructure, pavement design, Miscellaneous
Detailed Bill of quantities & specifications
Tender papers : General condition of contract, Prequalification document &
fiancial bid & Tender drawings

PREAMBLE
Raiya road is one of the major city road , which connects city center
and west zone residential area . Broad gauge railway line passes through
city which crosses Raiya road near old cancer hospital .
Everyday more than six train passes , which requires shutting down
of the road by at least 12 times. it is very inconvenient to all the
commuters.
Looking at these reasons, RMC has decided to construct either
Railway Over Bridge( ROB) or Railway Under Bridge( RUB) in lieu of level
crossing.
RMC has awarded Consultancy services for preparation of Railway
Under Bridge (RuB) / Railway Over Bridge ( RoB) in lieu of railway crossing
at Raiya Road Railway Crossing , to us - M/s DELF Consulting

Engineers (I) Pvt LTd, Ahmedabad.

PRESENT SENERIO AT LC NO 6
Rajkot Ahmedabad Broad gauge line is crossing the busy
Raiya Road.
Along the Raiya Road , there are some prominent locations on
both side of the track. It is seen that Rajkot Airport is located at about
2-3 kms from this railway crossing on left side. The Madav Rao
Sindhiya Cricket stadium is located about 1 km on right side of the
Railway crossing. Kishanpara Junction is located about 200m on
right side of the Railway crossing. Kishanpara Chauk is a iconic
place of Rajkot City. Other residential & commercial complexes are
also located on both side of railway track.
Due to this heavy traffic movement is observed on Raiya Road.
During train movement the crossing is closed and there is stoppage
of vehicular traffic, resulting in to

Air Pollution
More Fuel Consumptions
Maintenance of Pavement
Roads parallel to track exists & shall be continued

PROPOSAL
Looking to this situation, RMC has considered to develop a crossing
structure which can provide uninterrupted traffic movement.
For this ROB/RUB is the obvious proposition. For which we have
prepared this feasibility study.
In this regards Geo tech investigation & Topographical survey at
this location has been carried out. The project specific requirements
have been discussed with RMC officials to understand their views..
After study of geo tech reports and topography survey we have
prepared various alternatives of ROB & RUB with following
consideration.

ALTERNATIVE 1 OF ROB WITHOUT CIRCLE SHIFTING & LAND
ACQUISTION

Features of Alternative 1 :
Without any raising option, Gradient1in 16 which is too steep . If we
increase gradient up to 1 in 22, than raising comes to 2.68mt & 3.12m if

ALTERNATIVE 2 OF ROB

Features of Alternative 2:
At Kishanpara side raising with gradient of 1 in 20 to 1in 25,
varies between 0.623mt to 2.423mt respectively.
At kishanpara side distance from approach endpoint & circle
is less than required for traffic movement due to extension of 20m.
As per IRC standard minimum size of Roundabout of 15mt is
required, and we are able to provide only 12mt, which is slightly less
looking to the availability of present lane width.
Total land acquisition is 1019 sqmt and additional land
available is 435 sqmt.
To improve road width land acquisition at Sardarbhavan &
AG office necessary. Kishanpara circle to be shifted.

Features of Alternative 1 :
For RUB Gradient to avoid any lowering, the gradient comes to 1in
22, which is too steep for upward movement of Heavy Commercial
Vehicle , Multi Axle Vehicles and even for chhakada .

Features of Alternative 3 :
For this option we extended RUB by 20mt with 1.00mt lowering the
surrounding junction area.
19mt circle shifting from existing center to new center of circle towards
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial Building.
Total land acquisition is 1019 sqmt and available land is 435 sqmt.

For 12mt width of structure the available carriageway
width is 11mt in case of ROB but only 9.5mt + 1.5mt footpath in
case of RUB.
This will result in traffic ease in case of ROB for same width of
structure.
