Summary of Last Class

Cricondenbar and cricondentherm
Introduction to three component mixtures:
Not possible to represent all the variables on a
single diagram
Use a triangular plot to show 3-components
There are only two independent composition
variables (most be a total of 100%)

Worked Example
Example 2-8 on page 76;
The mixture falls in the two-phase region.
There are bubble point lines and dew point
lines, but remember these are plotted at
constant pressure and temperature so in this
graph are a function of composition.

Multicomponent Mixtures
There are too many components to plot
compositions uniquely.
The two-phase region gets bigger as more
components are added.
The two-phase region can extend beyond the
critical point
Figure 2-33 is a phase diagram for a real
reservoir fluid. Note that we have added
liquid deposit curves within the two-phase
region.

Homework Class 7 due next class

Question 2-13 on page 86. This involves
identifying various parameters on a binary
mixture phase diagram.
Skim-read through Chapter 2. We will
spend more time interpreting phase
diagrams in Chapter 5.

Next Quiz
We have now finished the section of phase
behaviour.
There will be a 15 minute quiz next week.
Tuesday 2nd March or Wednesday 3rd Mar.
It will be on phase behaviour (Chapter 2).
