Comparative Study Of R.C.

C And Post Tensioning Slab And Beam Of Industrial Building Jeumont Electric At Jarod

INTRODUCTION
What is post tensioning?
Post - tensioning is the most important
classification of pre-stressing and is based on
the sequence of casting the concrete and
applying tension to the tendons.
Post-tensioning is a technique of pre loading the
concrete in a manner which eliminates or
reduces the tensile stresses that are induced by
the dead and live loads. High strength steel
ropes called strands inside the metal duct
(tendon) arranged to pass through the
concrete floor. When the concrete is hardened,
each set of strands is gripped in the jaws of
hydraulic jack and stretched to a pre determined

When the concrete is hardened, each set of strands is

gripped in the jaws of hydraulic jack and stretched to a pre
determined force.

Title: POST-TENSIONED CONCRETE SLAB
Objective Of Invention
It is the object of the present invention to overcome the
aforementioned disadvantages of both pretensioning and
post-tensioning, specifically the rigid mold and straight
line tendon requirement of pretensioning and the
inapplicability of post-tensioning to relatively small
structures.
It is a further object to provide a method which minimizes
the creep loss in post-tensioning and a method of forming,
inexpensibly, a relatively small post-tensioned concrete
slab, with the resultant advantages of lightweight, high
tensile strength, resistance to cracking and deterioration
and impermeability to liquids and gases.

Title : Bonded slab post-tension system

Objective Of Invention
It is an object of the present invention to provide a
bonded slab post-tensioning system which is
relatively inexpensive.
It is another object of the present invention to
provide such a system in which all of the
components of the system are encapsulated.
It is still a further object of the present invention to
provide such a system which is easy to install and
easy to use.

Title :An Improved Beam For Construction a Slim

Floor And a Method Of Constructing The Slim
Floor Using The Beam
Objective Of Invention
The aim of the present invention is to provide an
alternative beam which is constructed at a faster
rate without the need of propping (upto 6 m
span), shuttering, and finishing, and can support
heavier load at a wider span for the same depth
of a conventional RCC beam.

Aim & Objective

The purpose of study is to provide economical
solution for conventional and post tensioning slab
& beam.
Acquire helpful data on the strength and
behaviors of post-tensioning and anchor systems
To identify the reasons for using post tensioning
method.
Which one is most economical method for the
site
Test and analyze the PT strand and anchor
system
Find practical scope of use for the strand and
anchor in future projects.

Scope Of Study
This study is mainly concerned with the use of
post -tensioning method.
Efforts will be made to give best economical and
effective method from conventional and post
tensioning method for the project site.
This work includes the design and estimate for
Flat Slabs of span 6.0 M by R.C.C. and
Prestressed Concrete techniques. For smaller
spans, associated with normal building works ,
prestressed concrete construction becomes too
cumbersome, irrespective of the economics
involved.

DATA COLLECTION
For the comparison of r.c.c and post-tensioning
the data collected are as follow.
1) Structural drawing of a industrial building:
The structural drawing of a building consist of
ground floor, first floor beam and slab,
reinforcement details of beam. The drawing only
shows the post-tensioned beam and slab.
2) PT drawing:
In this drawing post-tensioned beam and slab
details are give like reinforcement detail, stirrup
position and details of PT cable.

3) Rates:
For the estimation our guide has given us the
rates of shuttering, concrete, reinforcement and
PT cable.

DATA ANALYSIS

DATA ANALYSIS
After studying the drawing we have
collected the data which are,
1) Load criteria
FF= 2 KN/m2
LL= 10 KN/m2
2) PT SLAB
b=20 m
d=0.15 m
l=36 m

3) PT beam
b=600mm
d=1000mm
l = 20m

DATA CALCULATION
For one way continuous beam,

Take,
Clear span: 5.4m
Effective span: 6.0m
Width=36m
L=20m

After calculation,
d=200mm
D=230mm
Reinforcement details:
Main steel:
At H (and M) - 12#, 100c/c Ast = 1130.9 mm2
At J (K, L) - 12 # 100 c/c Ast =869.9 mm2
At B(F)- 12 # 200 c/c Ast =565.45 mm2 (from H)
- 12 # 200 c/c Ast =434.95 mm2 (from I)
- 12 # 380 c/c Ast = 286.27 mm2 (top bars)
At C(D,E) - 12 # 200 c/c Ast =434.95 mm2 (from J)
- 12 # 200 c/c Ast =434.95 mm2 (from I)
-12 # 350 c/c Ast =323.11 mm2 (top bars)
Distribution steel:

For doubly beam,

Take,
b = 600 mm
d = 1800 mm
L= 20 m
d = 100mm
e = 100mm
After calculation,
Reinforcement details,
In compression, provide 25#, 7 no bar. (3436)

In tension, provide 32#, 18 no bar. (18321)

In side face of beam, provide 10#, 14 no bar. (1099)

RESULT

graph: cost comparison between post tensioned and

conventional

RESULT
From the graph obtained it is clear that the post
tensioning method is economical for the project.
From the design of r.c.c beam the depth we got is
very high which is very difficult to cast, while the
PT beam reduces the depth of beam which is
proved to be effective.

CONCLUSION
From the results obtained and After doing
designing and estimation of conventional and
post tensioned method we conclude that post
tensioning method is economical and effective for
this project. The most significant factor affecting
the cost of slab system post-tensioning is the
tendon length.
