EARTH REINFORCEMENT

concept of earth reinforcement

It
consisting
of
a
composite
construction material of great strength
and stability formed by the association
of granular soil and reinforcement.
High
internal
friction,
generated
between granular fill and strategically
embedded reinforcing strips
It allows the transfer of stress from the
soil into the strips

The reinforcing elements includes steel and

geosynthetics
The reinforcement steel can be long steel strips of
50 to 120mm (2 to 5in) wide
Sometimes steel grids or meshes are also
used as reinforcement
Reinforcement
placed
in
horizontal
layers
throughout the height of the wall provides the
tensile strength to hold the soil together.
It can be used forretaining walls, bridge
abutments, dams, seawalls etc
