language.

Analysis, points out the
mother tongue isnt
supposed to enter the
picture.
This because errors
. can be fully

described in terms of the Learning

Tongue, without the need to refer to
the First Language of the learners.

First Level learners ignorance of the

Learning Tongue
There are two ways in which this
ignorance can be manifested:
1. In silence.
2. In the way they compensate for
their ignorance.

The description of Error

1. The error detection.

2. Locating errors.

3. Describing errors.

Levels of Error
Misspellings.
Lexical errors.
Pragmatic Errors.

Diagnosing Errors
Four major categories:

Interlingual
Intralingual
Communication-strategy
Induced

Errors are not caused by the influence of their first language, they
actually are reflections of some common learning strategies.
