Was defeated by Rome and became a Roman Province

After Roman Empire Divided, Turkey ruled Macedonia.

Bulgaria gained control after The Treaty of San Stefano was made

Macedonia

Was under control of Rome, then Turkey, and Bulgaria

Then finally became independent in 1991.

Now improving education systems

Improving economic systems

Trying to promote democracy and inter-ethnic harmony

Geography of Macedonia

Macedonia is a country located in Southeast Europe

One of the successor states of former Yugoslavia

Slightly smaller than the state of Vermont

Mountainous country filled with small basins of agricultural land

The First Battle of Macedonia

The first battle in the Macedonian Wars

Brought on by the alliance of Phillip V and Hannibal

Phillip wanted more territory for Macedonia

The war ended with The Peace of Phoenice Treaty

Phillip of Macedonia

He was a hostage of Greeks at Thebes

While he was captive there, he observed military techniques

Played a major role in strengthening and reorganizing the army when

he came back to Macedonia

Macedonia Today

Macedonia is trying to improve their educational systems and economic

systems

They are educating ethnic minorities in their own languages
