Project Objective

To build a low cost adaptable Electric

theft detection meter with
components readily available in the
Pakistani market.(create jobs)

TO PREVENT THEFT
Background
Electricity theft has become a very major
problem in Pakistan.
Immense amount of power theft in
industrial sector.
The District Task Force (DTF) detected
1,694 cases of gas and electricity theft in
only Faisalabad during the last two months
of the year 2013 (sep-oct 2013) which
inflicted loss to government revenue to an
amount of Rs598.41 million.
How theft takes place
The electricity comes from two wires
a live one and the neutral.
How theft takes place is that the thief
takes live wire from supply and the
neutral one from another source.
(Kunda system)
The meter is like a load if the circuit
is not complete it will not run.

Circuits Designing and
Implementation
There are two main sections that Ill
discuss

The signal conditioning section

The coding section

The Signal Conditioning
Section
First All three signal Current Forward,
Current Backward and voltage
Signals are stepped down to the level
of the microcontroller. (0-5 volt).
The Coding Section
The salient features of the coding are
that it calculates all the values of
both of current and voltage in Root
Mean Square value form and also the
machine time for the calculation of
value for one wave is equal to the
Time period (almost) of the supply
frequency 50 Hz.

Conclusion
The simplest and economical prototype was
developed and tested for energy theft applications.
We had decided that we would use the Hall Effect
IC to detect theft but due to the attenuating supply
and undependable power source we had to switch
over to current sensing part through the current
transformers.
Then came the coding part the loop that converted
the signal to digital domain was a challenge itself.
The time period for one complete wave was 20ms
(1/50Hz).
