DIAMOND BUILDING, PUTRAJAYA
DIAMOND BUILDING
TECHNOLOGY
The Diamond Building in Putrajaya is a green building where it
incorporated various type of green technology such as
daylighting, solar panel, rainwater harvesting, light shelf, low e-
glazing glass and many more.
The building itself is headquarters for the Suruhanjaya Tenaga
Malaysia.
It got the nickname from the design itself as it similar to a
diamond.
Most green technology use in Diamond Building implement the
Life Cycle Analysis.
WHAT IS LCA?
LCA is a technique to access environmental impact associated
with all stages of a products life from raw material extraction
through materials processing, manufacture, distribution, use,
repair and maintenance, and disposal or recycling.
TYPES OF LCA
CRADLE TO GRAVE a full life cycle assessment from resource
extraction to use phase and disposal phase
CRADLE TO GATE a partial product life cycle from resource
extraction to the factory gate
CRADLE TO CRADLE end of life disposal step for the product is
a recycling process
GATE TO GATE partial LCA where one value added process in
the entire production chain
RAINWATER HARVESTING
Rainwater harvesting is process where rainwater are collected,
stored and use the water later.
Rainwater normally collected from roof gutter and stored in
tank.
InDiamond Building, rainwater mainly use for toilet flush water
and gardening purposes
It reduces portable water usage by more than 65%
There are 4 rainwater tanks on top of Diamond Building roof.
RAINWATER HARVESTING LCA
Rainwater harvesting in LCA can be classified as cradle to
cradle, as the rainwater that fall onto surface are stored and
recycle for further use.

TYPE
PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLAR PANEL
Solarcell or also known as photovoltaic that convert sunlight
directly into electricity.
Photovoltaicgets its name from the process of converting light
into voltage which is called the PV effect.
Total
capacity of photovoltaic panel of Diamond Building are
71.4 kWp that fed directly to the national grid.
Diamond Building consist of 1,112 panels and it produce 10% of
total the buildings energy needs.
Expected electricity generated is 102,000kWh per year,
equivalent to rm40,000.00 cost saving annually or an avoidance
of 63,000 kg annual CO2 emission
PHOTOVOLTAIC LCA
Photovoltaic panels can be classified as cradle to grave as it
have a lifetimes of at least 30 years and beyond that, the
panels are not effective anymore
