Agriculture-Historal

Period
People lived a nomadic lifestyle, moving with the seasons
to follow the food supply.

Around 5500 BC (7, p26-28), the Sumerian civilization of

the Middle East and other early pre Greco-Roman
civilizations understood the need for a specialized
agricultural workforce for their societies to thrive.
invention of irrigation
The Egyptians grew their crops along the banks of the
River Nile on the rich black soil. The fertile soil was ideal
to grow healthy crops.
Eyptians grew crops such as wheat and barley. They
also grew flax which was made into linen.
The most important crop was grain. The ancient
Egyptians used grain to make bread, porridge and beer.
Grain was the first crop they grew after inundation
(flooding season). Once the grain was harvested, they
grew vegetables.
Productive Technology
Some seeds are of a better quality than that of normal
quality seeds. The production from these seeds is better
than production from the normal ones. These seeds are
also known as miracle seeds. Some of the major
examples are Paddy, Jowar, Bajra, and Wheat & Maize.
The adoption of modern technology such as precision
farming a new technique that boosts crop yields and
reduces waste by using satellite maps and computers to
match seed, fertilizer, and crop protection applications
to local soil conditions
