Who is a digital
citizen?
Someone who is using technology in an informational way to participate
in multiple factors including politics and society.

People who are also considered a digital citizen can participate in blogs,
journalism, and be on multiple social networks.
FERPA
Does anyone know what FERPA is and what it stand for?

FERPA stands for the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act; its a
Federal law that protects the privacy of students education records.

If you are 18 or younger your parents have a legal right to access your
digital education records.

They can grant you permission to release your information or take it


away.
Take out a piece of
paper..
During this past week, pick a day and track
each hour.

Write down what you did including time


spent on technology, eating, taking a nap,
or studying in a log.

Start with the time you woke up and end


with the time you went to sleep.

Add it all up.

Watch out for free things that you see on websites, usually it cost
private information that becomes sold to outside companies.

You may think you need those free 100


coins but its not worth it.

Downloading from untrustworthy


sources can invite viruses into
your computer.
Privacy When making an account
online, be careful to create

and usernames and passwords that


are complicated and hard to
guess.

Security There are people out there that


can get information easily and
quickly.

Do not give out your password


to anyone

information.

Dont meet people you dont know in person, sometimes online
strangers lie about who they are

Dont pretend to be someone else, it can be a form of bullying or seen


as a crime

Do seek help if your computer has a virus

Do google yourself and become familiar with your digital footprint

Cyberbullying is when kids taunt or bully each other online using
electronic technology.

What should you do if you are getting cyberbullied?

1. Nearly 43% of kids have been bullied online. 1 in 4 has had it happen more than
once.
2. Over 80% of teens use a cell phone regularly, making it the most common
medium for cyber bullying.
3. 90% of teens who have seen social-media bullying say they have ignored it. 84%
have seen others tell cyber bullies to stop.
4. Only 1 in 10 victims will inform a parent or trusted adult of their abuse.
5. Girls are about twice as likely as boys to be victims and perpetrators of
cyberbullying.
6. About 58% of kids admit someone has said mean or hurtful things to them online.
More than 4 out 10 say it has happened more than once.
7. Bullying victims are 2 to 9 times more likely to consider committing suicide.
