INTRODUCTION
The abuse of drugs is common amongst the youths.
To many substance abuse addiction does not make any sense to them but
addiction is of the brain.
Drug use leads to changes in the structure and function of the brain.
Although it is true that for most people the initial decision to take drugs is
voluntary, over time the changes in the brain caused by repeated drug
abuse can affect a person's self control and ability to make sound
decisions.
At the same time, drugs cause the brain to send intense impulses to take
more drugs.
RESEARCH QUESTION AND IMPORTANCE
The specific research question is important in the sense that
it provide a direction of the project.
This provides the thesis and understanding of the project.
The research question is:
How does substance abuse influences behaviours
This is important in the sense that it provides the knowledge
and understanding of the behaviour characterized by
substance abuse.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Drug/substance abuse is a treatable disease.
There are many effective treatments for drug abuse. Some important points
about substance abuse treatment include:
Medical and behavioural therapy, alone or used together, are used to treat drug
abuse.
Sometimes treatment can be done on an outpatient basis.
Severe drug abuse usually requires residential treatment, where the patient
sleeps at the treatment centre.
Treatment can take place within the criminal justice systems, which can stop a
convicted person from returning to criminal behaviour.
Studies show that treatment does not need to be voluntary to work.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Risk factors of substance addiction:
Biological factors.Genes, gender, ethnicity, and the presence of
other mental disorders may increase risk for drug abuse and
addiction.
Environment.Peer pressure, physical and sexual abuse, stress, and
family relationships can influence the course of drug abuse and
addiction in a person's life.
Development.Although taking drugs at any age can lead to
addiction, the earlier that drug use begins, the more likely it is to
progress to more serious abuse.
PUBLISHED RESEARCH STUDIES
There are some of the published research studies including
the following:
Galizio, M., & Maisto, S. A. (1985).Determinants of Substance
Abuse: Biological, Psychological, and Environmental Factors.
Boston, MA: Springer US.
This book speaks in depth about substance abuse. The

prevention are contained in the book.
PUBLISHED RESEARCH STUDIES
Barnard, M. (2007).Drug addiction and families. Philadelphia:
Jessica Kingsley Publishers.
The book speaks also on the issues of drugs but has included
the effects of it on the family.
This is important in the sense that it drives points home by
pointing out the fundamental issues of family that it affects.
METHODS OF ADMINISTERING DRUGS
The methods that are used in the administering/introducing
the drugs into the body system includes:
The use of direct injection
This is the introduction of the drugs into the body system via
syringe.
METHODS
With the oral administration
This is the main method in which drugs are administered to
the body.
It is majorly via the mouth.
RESEARCH APPROACH
The approach that can be used in the research is the survey.
This is the method that is mostly recommended and is
effective in the knowledge of the affected areas.
The survey of the areas affected is important since it has
been effective over the years.
In part, the research approach has gained enough popularity
as seen in the chart below.

ETHICAL ISSUES
The ethical issues in play are like the informed consent.
These are the things that affects the patients in rehabilitation
centre.
Informed consent is an important tool of the ethics that
exists.
