Father:
Worked as administrator in Ateneo
Later switched to banking
Graduated from Ateneo
Died of embolism at age of 59

Relationship with parents:


-He has always been in good terms with his
mom, but hated his A-boy dad.
-His dad had high expectations of him.
-He hated it when his dad would compare him to
his mother because it was meant in a derogatory
way.

DEVELOPMENTAL HISTORY:
Studied in Ateneo during grade school and high
school
Described his childhood as angry and dark
Parents separated when he was in grade 1
because his father cheated on his mother.
He stayed with his mother in Katipunan.
His parents had a big fight after his father
kidnapped them while their mother was
away

He and his siblings were forced to live with their
father. It was a harsh environment, due to his
dads violence directed to them. He had to
maintain a tough persona to survive.
When his father started working in the banking
business, his father started partying and
drinking.
Philippe started drinking when he was grade 5
(due to influence of his dad and relatives of
both sides of the family).
By the age of 12, he already developed a
drinking habit and that affected his grades a bit.

During grade school and high school, he was
known for being a rebel. He excelled in
academics and sports.
When he reached high school, his parents
finally became friends and co parents.(But
there were no plans of getting back together)
He was kicked out of Ateneo (along with his
two best friends) during 4th year, 4th quarter of
high school due to fraternity hazing.
Given the name FLIP= =Bouts of anger, Flip out

He was sent to Switzerland to finish highschool
and continue college. He took up business
administration.
He was not happy being far from his family
which is why he resorted to drinking and
partying everyday.

In 1993 (22 years old), he went back to the
Philippines and started working as an officer in
Metrobank.
In the banking lifestyle , it was usually about
flaunting yourself and showing off.
He then started to suffer from depression at
this point. He kept on drinking and partying.
He used alcohol as an antidepressant.
He made a lot of enemies due to his drinking
behavior and mistreated a lot of women. He
got into fights he didnt know about.

He was involved in 13 car


accidents due to drunk driving
(Chin, Tongue, Ribs, Legs,
Fingers)

Things did not work out for him in his life in the
Philippines, so he was sent to London and there he
decided to take his masters in Finance and
Administration
When asked about his experiences during his
schooling in London, he mentioned he had no
memories because this was the height of his abuse.
He would have blackouts and continually experience
them even at times when he was not drinking.

In 1997, he was introduced to AA or Alcoholics
Anonymous
He was brought to Santa Fe, New Mexico in US
by his mother for rehabilitation (for drinking).
I just did it for my mother
He was able to manipulate the doctors and
psychologists.
After he was released, he went to his cousins
house in Los Angeles, California. They would
smoke marijuana and take downers, ecstasy,
and high grade cocaine.

He was told by the doctors that he was a
candidate for full-blown cirrhosis (kidney
malfunction and inflammation) So he quit
against his will. He was in pain.
So he switched to drugs, specifically ecstasy.

From 2000-2005, he went back to the
Philippines to work in a real estate company.
He lived an unhealthy lifestyle, he was back in
the corporate worldand back to drinking

In 2005 (34 years old), he was sent to US and


attended University of Spiritual Healing and
Sufism. It lasted until 2007.
On December 2007, he was the one who
volunteered for rehab. He reported that his
life wasnt working anymore.

He went to Tagaytay for SELF detox program.


But instead of staying there for 21 days, his
mother flew him back to US for his third
rehabilitation.
He spent 2 months in Michaels House
Treatment in Palm Springs, California. He was
diagnosed with Substance Abuse Disorder and
MDD.

He transferred to Alta Mira Recovery Center in
Sausalito, California. He stayed there for 2
months.
He spent most of his months in rehab by going
to gym and staying away from drinking. But he
didnt embrace the program. He refused to
take antidepressants. He relapsed.

He had his fourth rehabilitation in Family
Wellness Center located in Makati City on
2008.
He took his rehab seriously. He really wanted
to get better at this point.
He got scared because during his rehab in the
US, he wasnt able to speak well for 2 months.
He kept talking in a loop, stuttering and saying
the same thing over and over. I would reset
every 5 minutes

Finally, he was able to let go of his drug and
alcohol addiction.
It plagued him a lot and the withdrawal stage
was the hardest. (Chills and Fever)
Alopecia (Spot Baldness) I looked like a
Neanderthal
Dreams I longed for certain drugs so I would
dream of it and when I would wake up I would
feel like I was on it

When he stopped drinking, he finally let go of


his tough personality which he found tiring
to keep up when he was living with his father
He is now calm and chill most of the time
He is also currently active in AA and NA
(Narcotics Anonymous).
Now, he said he strives to be dependable
Does CrossFit and yoga right now

Most rehabs in the Philippines were church


based so it really got me praying

Philippine Culture My family served as the best


support system, they dont give up on you

Therapists that went through the same recovery
