MOTIVATION IS AN INSIDE JOB

You cannot make a seed grow, but you can provide

the right conditions for it to develop into its full
potential.

And so it is with people ..

You as a branch manager cannot really motivate

your staff but you can provide the environment in
which they can grow themselves.

IN SUMMARY

SHALOM BM Training - Talent

16
Motivation
FIRST LAW OF MOTIVATION

WHAT IS ASKED FOR GETS DONE,

WHAT IS MEASURED GETS DONE BETTER,
WHAT IS REWARDED GETS DONE BEST OF ALL

Why?

People do what they do because of what happens to

them when they do it.

SHALOM BM Training - Talent

17
Motivation
SECOND LAW OF MOTIVATION

WHAT PEOPLE DO DURING THEIR WORKING DAY IS

WHAT IS BEING REINFORCED BY THEIR
MANAGERS.

Why?

If people behave according to the rewards they

receive, what they do at work is reflection of the
current rewards they are receiving.

SHALOM BM Training - Talent

18
Motivation
THIRD LAW OF MOTIVATION

IF PERFORMANCE IS NOT IMPROVING THEN

REINFORCEMENT IS NOT OCCURING

Why?

If there is no change in behavior or performance of

people, the rewards are not being changed enough
to encourage them to change their behavior.
