To compare the magazine covers, firstly it is clear to see that a medium close up shot of a female
artist/mode has been used, with her giving direct address. The main image also partially covers the
masthead, a regular code and convention of a front page. The main cover line on both is clear to see
on the right hand side of the image in bigger font. All of the cover lines and text on the pages follow
a clear colour scheme, where Vibe uses red and black, Lemonade has used yellow and grey. A
barcode has been included on both pages, however the placement on the page is slightly different.
On most magazines I have studied, the barcode is placed on the bottom right hand side, which is
why I decided to place mine there. The differences in the two, is firstly that Vibe chose to go for a
much darker background than mine, which for an RnB magazine I think looks more appropriate.
Furthermore, the model on the Vibe cover I believe follows the codes and conventions of an RnB
magazine better than my own, as she is dressed in a more statement outfit with large chain
jewellery. My magazine includes a puff in the bottom left hand corner, which Vibe magazine does not.
Puffs are very common on most covers and follow the codes and conventions of magazine covers,
Both contents pages of Q and Lemonade feature several different images of artists on the page,
which helps to add interest and can ink to some of the stories featured in the list of articles.
Although Q have used a review as appose to a editorial, on the page they give the same effect,
and look separate from al the other text. My contents page follows codes and conventions also
by using a constant font throughout for all the article titles and the small text information below
each one. I have challenged the codes and conventions slightly by placing my page numbers at
the end of the article title, which is different to how Q have placed theirs before. I decided to
include social media information on my contents page also which is not featured on the Q
contents page. I did this as my magazine is targeted at a younger target audience, therefore an
The double page spread from both of these magazines uses only one main image of a female music
artist. This means neither required a caption although that is common on separate images featured
on a double page spread. Following the codes and conventions of a double page spread in a
magazine, I have used a double spaced size 10/11 font for my article, which has been arranged into
columns. As both of these articles are Q&A, it is also clear to see that the question titles have been
separated in either font/colour to make them stand out from the rest of the text. Both of the modes
are using direct address again. My double page spread also incudes all essential features such as a
headline, stand first, by-line, drop cap and picture credit. These are also seen in the double page
spread featuring Nicki Minaj. I used this example as inspiration for my own DPS therefore the
