History

Lordstown is traced in the industrial heart of northeastern Ohio, about one

hour away from Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Situated in Trumbull county.

Also, the cities of Warren, Niles and Youngstown are short trip away and
provide a firm network of businesses and services.

Lordstown's history can be found back to the Revolutionary War when

property belonging to Connecticut landowners was destroyed, and who then
claimed reimbursement from their legislature. Five hundred thousand acres
of the Western Reserve, known as "Fire Lands" was set aside by legislature to
replace the burned land. In 1786, a committee was appointed to dispose of
this "far western" land

Lordstown was established by Samuel P. Lord and was later deeded to his
son.

The first election for Township officers was held at James Kennedys house
on June 21, 1827.

The early residents of the township were frugal and bought small tracts of
land and added acreage to their farms as they could afford it. The farms in
turn, grew larger and larger and the population remained small.
Ohio Governor James Rhodes helps clear the land in 1964 to
start the construction of the GM Assembly Plant in Lordstown

passed an ordinance to start a village police department. Prior
to this, Lordstown was patrolled under contract between the
Trumbull County Sheriff and the Lordstown township trustees.
This patrol included 1 permanent car stationed in the township.

In 1977 six full time deputy positions were created.

Not until October of 1986 a police station was developed.

Social Services
Strengths
The strengths of Lordstowns social services is that is set next to major
cities that offer many different resources regarding care for people in
the community. A big focus was on the elderly and assisting with
poverty for the community. Lordstown is a small community that offers
tight knit support throughout the county.
Weakness
The biggest disadvantage that Lordstown has is that no social services
are directly located in the village. Most of these services require the
ability to travel to them. If people do not have adequate
transportation, than they may be unable to take advantage of those
services.
