Introduction
Speedy development of internet in every
field leads to availability of digital data to
the public.
Internet has been spread in many
applications like telemedicine, online-
banking, teleshopping etc.
One of this application telemedicine is
crucial one, where Internet is used to
transfer or receive medical data by
healthcare professional.

Problem Definition
In number of medical applications, special safety
and confidentiality is required for medical images,
because critical judgment is done on medical
images, which leads to the proper treatment.
Therefore, it must not be changed in an
illegitimate way; otherwise, an undesirable
outcome may results due to loss of decisive
information.
Therefore, there is a need to provide a strict
security in medical images to ensure only
occurrence of legitimate changes.
Watermarking
Watermark is an invisible signature embedded
inside an image to show authenticity or proof of
ownership
Discourage unauthorized copying and distribution
of images over the internet
Software can be used to search for a specific
watermark
Ensure a digital picture has not been altered.
A Medical image watermarks are applied to authenticate
(trace the origin of any image) and/or to investigate the
integrity (detect whether changes have been made) of
medical images.
In number of medical applications, special safety and
confidentiality is required for medical images, because
critical judgment is done on medical images, which leads to
the proper treatment.
Medical images hold decisive property and are very crucial
and important part of medical information. Such part of the
medical image is called as Region of Interest (ROI).
Background
Watermarking Properties
Every watermarking system has few very important desirable
properties. Some of these properties are also conflicting and
we are often pressured to accept some trade-offs between these
properties based on the application of the watermarking system

Proposed Work
It presents a preliminary study on the decomposition of
medical images when embedded with different watermarks,
using a variety of popular systems.
The Image quality is examined with a number of widely
used matrices, which have been used elsewhere in image
processing.
The new development in the health care practices and
development in distributed relative platforms for medical
diagnosis have led to the development of the efficient
methods to compress medical data.
Implementation Framework

The process of watermarking is done two ways namely

Watermark Embedding and Watermark Extraction
The techniques are based on typical requirements of any
digital watermarking scheme including imperceptibility and
robustness criteria.
We propose here a new watermarking scheme, which satisfies
the requirements of any medical images watermarking scheme
including imperceptibility, robustness, authenticity and
integrity.
The proposed scheme is designed to be robust against various
kinds of attacks by using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT)
domain.
Medical Image Watermarking Process
Flow
The general process flow for medical image watermarking is
similar to that of the other watermarking applications in
various other fields. The process flow diagram is as shown
below:

Watermarking Embedding
The embedding process consists of embedding the above
obtained patient information in the cover image or original
image
Cover or original image is the medical image resulting from
medical scan of the patient
The result of the embedding process is the watermarked
image which contains the hidden message behind the
original cover image. This image can now be sent over the
network
Watermarking Extraction
The extraction process is implemented at the receiver side to
find out the hidden watermarked image containing the
patient information.
If the hidden image is obtained either partially or fully it
validates the authenticity of the image and at the same time
gives valuable information about the patients medical
diagnosis at the sender end.
The idea is to make use of internet and telemedicine to send
the medical images over the internet at distant places for
further diagnosis and better medical healthcare facilities to
be provided to all irrespective of his/ her location.
Objectives
To study and analyse the various steganographic techniques
which exist and to develop an inference from them.

To implement data hiding in medical images where the

hidden message contains information about the patient.

Testing and performance evaluation of the technique based

on various factors like Peak to Signal Noise Ratio (PSNR),
Mean Square Error(MSE) etc.
Proposed Work
Wavelet Transform or Discrete Wavelet Transform is
one of the widely used techniques for image
processing applications and is used in this research
work.
For the implementation of this research work, a
watermarking algorithm using DWT technique will
be implemented using various kinds of wavelet
filters such as haar, coiflet and symlet.
The performance of the developed methodology
with different kinds of filters will be compared on the
basis of several performance characteristics viz.
PSNR, MSE and attacks.
