Abuse and Neglect:

There are 3 Common Neglect:


Types of Abuse: Defined as failure to provide for
Physical Abuse a childs basic needs necessary
to sustain the life or health of a
Sexual Abuse child, excluding failure caused
primarily by financial inability
Emotional Abuse unless relief services have been
offered and refused.
Physical abuse is defined
as causing a physical
injury that results in

child. These injuries are
considered abuse
regardless of whether the
caretaker intended to hurt
the child.
Sexual abuse includes
fondling a childs genitals,
penetration, incest, rape,

materials.
Emotional abuse is defined
as any mental or emotional
injury that results in an
observable impairment in a

to possible concerns, and should report any to CPS.

Investigating reports of abuse and neglect of children.

Providing services to children and families.

Placing children in foster care.

Providing services to help youth in foster care successfully


transition to adulthood.
