Frog or Toad?

Narrator 1: Frog or Toad? By Patricia A. Lynch

Frogs and Toads: A frog and a toad look alike. Some


things about them are the same. Some things
are different.

Frogs: Frogs lay their eggs in water. They lay a lot of


eggs. Hundreds and
hundreds at one time. The eggs float near the top
of the water.

Toads: Toads lay their eggs in water, too. They also lay a
Frog s: Frog tadpoles hatch from the frog eggs. The tadpoles
have tails, but they do not have legs.

Toad s: Toad tadpoles hatch from the toad eggs. These


tadpoles also
have tails and do not have legs.

Frog s: Soon the frog tadpoles have legs. The tadpoles'tails


soon shrink
up and falloff. These tadpoles w illbe frogs.

Toad s: Soon the toad tadpoles have legs, too. The tadpoles'

Frog s: The frogs stay near w ater as adults. Frogs need to be
near w ater.

Toad s: The toads live on land. They do not need to be near


w ater

Frog s: You can tella frog from a toad. Look at the frog. A frog

sm ooth, w et skin.

Toad s: Look at the toad. A toad has dry skin. There are lots of
bum ps
on its skin.

Frog s: Look at the frog. It can m ake a sound in its throat.


Croak! Croak!
Toad s: Look at the toad. It can also m ake a
sound in its throat, too.
N ee-deep! N ee-deep!

Frog s an d Toad s: N ow you know how frogs and


toads are the sam e.
