INTRO TO ANATOMY

Zach Zoerhoff, Ty Trikones

CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

The main function is to move blood through the body

It also transports nutrients and oxygen to the cells in our body,
and removes waste products such as carbon dioxide.
Veins are an important part to the circulatory system
Responsible for carrying deoxygenated blood back to the heart
They also carry oxygenated blood to the tissues
Capillaries deliver nutrients and oxygen to tissues and remove
the byproducts of cellular reactions, such as CO2 and water
LYMPHATIC SYSTEM

Responsible for the removal of fluids in tissues

Absorbs and transports fatty acids and fats as chyle from the
digestive system
Thymus- produces several hormones
Lymph Nodes- they produce lymphocytes that help defend
the body against microorganisms and harmful foreign particles.
Spleen- filters blood, helps fight infection, creates white blood
cells (lymphocytes)
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

Its main functions are digestion and absorption

Consists of small and large intestines (colon)
Digestion- breakdown of foods into small molecules, which are
then absorbed into the body
Gallbladder stores and concentrates bile
Liver secretes bile and detoxifies chemicals
Stomach breaks down and digests food to extract nutrients
Pharynx swallows, serves as a pathway for movement of food from
mouth to esophagus
URINARY SYSTEM

Main function is to remove liquid waste from the blood in the

form of urine
It also keeps a stable balance of salts and other substances in the
blood.
Kidney- extracts waste from blood, and balances body fluids
Ureters- narrow, hollow tubes (9 inches long) that connects the
kidney to the bladder
Bladder- stores urine, allowing urination frequently
Urethra- carries urine from the bladder to outside the body
ENDOCRINE SYSTEM

The main function of this system is to produce and secrete

hormones
Hormones- Chemical substances produced in the body that regulate
the activity of cells or organs
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

Responsible for taking in oxygen and expelling CO2

Lungs: breathe in oxygen and release carbon dioxide
Pharynx: helps swallow and serves as a pathway for the movement of
food from the mouth to the esophagus
Trachea: delivers air from the mouth to the lungs during respiration. It
is known as the windpipe and it connects the larynx to the bronchi in the
lungs.
Alveoli: this is where gas exchange takes place, oxygen from inhaled air
diffuses through the walls of the alveoli into the red blood cells.
Larynx: voice box, responsible for swallowing, talking and breathing
INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM

7 functions:
Protection from suns UV rays
Regulates body temperature
Manufactures vitamin D
Nerves respond to touch, pain, pressure, temperature
Stores fat, vitamins and glucose
Absorbs substances through the skin
SKELETAL SYSTEM

5 functions:
Shape and Support
Movement
Protection
Blood Production
Storage
MUSCULAR SYSTEM

4 functions:
Movement
Maintenance of posture
Joint stabilization
Heat generation
NERVOUS SYSTEM

This system consists of the brain, spinal cord, sensory organs, and all
of the nerves that connect these organs with the rest of the body.
These parts of the body are responsible for control of the body and
communication among the parts of the body.
SPECIAL SENSES

Function of the eye: to see

Function of the ear: to listen and hear
Function of the tongue: to taste and to help food to the throat
