VIRTUAL REALITY IN

EDUCATION - PHYSICS
Imagine the learning experience you could offer
students if you were able to give them the
opportunity to participate in any physics
experiment regardless of the danger? Students
would be afforded that ability to gain first hand
knowledge, experiment, analyze and discover
from the safety of the classroom.
WHAT IS VIRTUAL REALITY?
Virtual reality is an artificial environment or
scene that are created by using hardware
devices and software of a computer.
This artificial scene or environment is
presented in such a manner that it look
and appears 3-D and we feel like a 3-D
world.
VIRTUAL REALITY IN EDUCATION

Education is an area which has adopted

virtual reality for teaching and learning
situations. The advantage of this is that it
enables large groups of students to
interact with each other within a three
dimensional environment.
It is able to present complex data in an
accessible way to students which is both
fun and easy to learn. Plus these students
can interact with the objects in that
environment in order to discover more
about them.
VIRTUAL REALITY IN EDUCATION
VIRTUAL REALITY AT THE MICO
We live in a technological society; therefore
The Mico has taken the initiative to
implement virtual reality as one of several
forms of technology in order to educate
tomorrows educators. Education has
moved on from books, pencils and pens to
the use of interactive technologies to help
impart knowledge and understanding.
TEACHING PHYSICS USING
VIRTUAL SIMULATIONS

With Virtual Reality the focus of

learning is placed in the
conception of environments that
allow students to interact with the
computer with minimal
restrictions.
A good learning environment requires free
contact between the user and the computer.
The reduction of the interface is precisely a
necessary condition to immersive Virtual
Reality.
TEACHING PHYSICS USING
VIRTUAL SIMULATIONS
Two important implications result from
immersion. First, there is a smaller
distinction between the user (student)
and the computer information (object
of knowledge); second, immersion
allows for a non-symbolic interaction
with the environment.

VIRTUAL PHYSICS LABS

Students at every level should have an

opportunity to do real Physics experiments, to
participate fully in learning new facts about the
natural world. Hands-on participation provides
not only a strong motivation but, more
important, is the only way to give students an
accurate understanding of science, whether
their careers will lead them into science or not.
FUTURE OF VIRTUAL LABS
ADVANTAGES OF VIRTUAL EDUCATION

Virtual reality provides new forms and methods of

visualization
The student is free to interact directly with the virtual
objects, allowing first-hand formulation and
verification of hypothesis.
The virtual environment can offer adequate
feedback, allowing students to focus their attention
on specific conceptual errors.
Virtual Reality can collect and show complex data in
real time.
DISADVANTAGES OF VIRTUAL EDUCATION

The high cost of the equipment

Time taken to learn how to use the software
and hardware.
Reluctance of education institutions to adopt
new technology into the regular learning
curriculum.
Possible health and safety effects
FINAL THOUGHTS
The Integration of Virtual Reality Technology
into the classroom opens up a whole new set of
learning opportunities for todays digital natives.
Virtual reality caters to the learning styles of
every type of learner; affording the possibilities
for learning any subject. virtually easy!
