INTRODUCTION

To achieve sustainable issue in

construction area, researchers and
companies focus on using waste
concrete as a new construction
material. It is called recycled
aggregate which can be produced by
concrete crusher.

The aggregates are categorized by

size as coarse and fine aggregate.
The characteristic of recycled
aggregates could be different by its
parent concrete because the parent
concrete was designed for its
purposes such as permeable, durable
and high strength concrete
What Is Recycle aggregate
concrete

Its a lower density , elastic modulus, strength and a

higher water absorption capacity.
recycled aggregate has a proportional mortar which
attached to aggregate, it gives a higher porosity
and a lower strength to RAC than the normal
concrete.
In addition, since recycled aggregates require a
more amount of water than natural aggregate,
shrinkage issue could be a problematic to use RAC
in practically.
Process of recycle aggregate

screening
contaminant elimination
Benefit of recycle aggregate
concrete

There are a variety of benefits in recycling

concrete rather than dumping it or burying it in a
landfill.
Keeping concrete debris out of landfills saves
landfill space.
Using recycled material as gravel reduces the
need for gravel mining
Using recycled concrete as the base material for
roadways reduces the pollution involved in trucking
material.

Title of Mechanical properties of recycled aggregate concrete under
Paper uniaxial loading

Authors Jianzhuang Xiaoa, Jiabin Lia, Ch. Zhang

Content the compressive strength and the stressstrain curve (SSC) of

recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) with different replacement
percentages of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) are
investigated experimentally.
Concrete specimens were fabricated and tested with different
RCA replacement percentages of 0%, 30%, 50%, 70% and
100%.
Conclusion The compressive strengths including the prism and the cube
compressive strengths of RAC generally decrease with
increasing RCA contents. But the ratio of the prism
compressive strength and the cube compressive

Title of Influence of amount of recycled coarse aggregates and

Paper production process
on properties of recycled aggregate concrete
Authors M. Etxeberria , E. Vazquez, A. Mari, M. Barra

Content In this study recycled coarse aggregates obtained by crushed

concrete were used for concrete production. Four different
recycled aggregate concretes were produced; made with 0%,
25%, 50% and 100% of recycled coarse aggregates.
Conclusion Concrete made with 100% of recycled coarse aggregates has
2025% less compression strength than conventional
concrete at 28 days.
Medium compression strength (3045 MPa) concrete made
with 25% of recycled coarse aggregates achieves the same
mechanical properties,

Title of Performance of concrete made with commercially produce

Paper coarse aggregate recycled concrete aggregate

Authors K.K. Sagoe-Crentsil , T. Brown , A.H Taylor

Content Performance tests have been carried out for fresh and hardended
properties of concrete made with commercially produced coarse
recycled cocnrete aggregate and natural fine sand.

Conclusion Tensile strength of recycled concretes as measured by the

splitting tensile method on specimens cured for periods up to
365 days , showed no stattically significant reduction in
strength in the period from 91 to 365 days.

Title of Properties of concrete made with recycled aggregate from
Paper partially hydrated old concrete

Authors Amnon Katz

Content The properties of the recycled aggregate and of the new

concrete
made from it, with nearly 100% of aggregate replacement,
were tested.
Conclusion Concrete made with 100% recycled aggregates was weaker
than concrete made with natural aggregates at the same
water to cement ratio. When the new concrete was made
from the same type of OPC and the same water to cement
ratio as the old concrete, the strength reduction was 25%,
regardless of the crushing age of the old concrete.
Case study

Tear Drop Jnc Bedhampton Hampshire

This was a new-build scheme to

allow for the increase in traffic
movement travelling to the new
business parks. The instruction which
would typically utilize a primary
limestone Type 1 clause 803 was
altered to recycled aggregate. The
material was produced by L&S Waste
managements aggregates division.
TRL supplied around 30,000t of Type
1 and 6f5 from the L&S processing
facility in Portsmouth.
Concluding remarks

When greater volume of recycled fine aggregates and fly ash was used,
free shrinkage of the specimens was reduced.

Concrete made with 100% of recycled coarse aggregates has 2025% less
compression strength than conventional concrete .

Reducing the environment pollution.
