Argument extension, Ofense neutralization, LBL,

Argument Importance and Time Allocation

LBL will guide you the most in your later speeches

Trivial, just read it
1NC
Again pretty trivial
Put theory and topicality at the top of the speech
DAs before the CPs they are external NBs to
Put case at the bottom (break it down contention by
contention)
Just read impact defense to each contention thats an
advantage
2AC
2AC Order: Overview Case T/FW CP/K DA
Whats an overview?
All overviews are meant to extend arguments and steal
ofense
In the 2AC this means extending the case, extending
framework, some rough impact calculation
Emphasize why your impacts are the most important in
the round
Just do LBL on the case debate (and blocks if you have
them)
After the case debate move on to your blocks
Detour: Overviews
In my opinion overviews are the most 2nd important
thing (next to LBL) that you can do to win a round
They are strategic ways to sum up why you are winning
the round
Extremely time efficient
Steal large swaths of ofense in a few sentences
Detour: LBL
LBL should always be segmented
Segmented means to isolate the arguments by where
the fall on the shell
The formula They say __ but __. Also __
You make 2 arguments for every one they make
2NC/1NR
The 2NC/1NR are meant to blow up each of case
position
Order: O/V LBL New impacts if you have time
Think about what overviews look like for each type of of
case position (remember explain + steal ofense)
What about case?- Just do line by line
1AR
Hardest speech- 5 min to respond to 13 min of neg
argumentation
Order: O/V Case (LBL) T/FW (LBL) CP/K (LBL)
DA (LBL)
You can also do an overview each time you go to an of
case position but I would not recommend this (takes too
much time)
You can however have prewritten extensions from the
2AC for arguments you think youll go for in the 2AR
They say__ but [insert your extension]
They 1AR only does Also for arguments that you
2NR
Go for 1 of case position
Kick out stuf your not going for (concede defense and answer
ofense)
The 2NR is essentially going to follow the same format as the
2NC/1NR- give an overview and move to LBL
The overview should extend what your going for, stress why you
have the biggest impacts, and why you solve literally everything
(or the afs lack thereof)
Emphasize ofensive args and WHY THE 2AR IS DONZO in the LBL
Make sure your warrants are water-tight
2AR
The biggest mistake of 2ARs is to forget about the case- it sort
of fades out and isnt used to leverage ofense
The 2AR is again very similar to the 1AR- O/V+LBL
The overview should extend what your going for, stress why
you have the biggest impacts, and why you solve literally
everything (or the afs lack thereof)
In the LBL make sure to emphasize ofense and twist the truth
a little to win
Twist the truth does not mean be dishonest, it means to make
it seem like some things are more important than they really
are
