Today, we are going to start a new lesson on
weight.

Mass
The amount of matter in an object is termed
as mass.

Example The mass of a box is 4 Kg.

Weight - A measurement that tells how
heavy an object is.

Example the backpack weighs 5 pounds.

1 pound (lb) = 16 ounces (oz)


1 ton = 2,000 pounds

Metric Units of mass are-
Kilogram (Kg)
Gram (g)

1 Kilogram (kg) = 1,000 gram (g)

Examples
Kilogram is a bigger unit.
Objects with more mass are measured in
Kilogram.
Examples cycle, car, telephone

Objects with less mass are measured in


grams.

Answer- 960 grams is less than a Kilogram
as 1 Kg = 1,000 grams

Conversion Unit
To Convert Kilogram (kg) to gram (g)-
Multiply with 1,000
Example- 5 Kg = 5 x 1,000
= 5,000 grams
To Convert grams (g) to Kilogram (kg)-
Divide with 1,000
Example 6,000 g = 6,000/1,000
= 6 Kg
