Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology
The OVERHEAD STOWAGE COMPARTMENTS - are installed above the left and
right (and centre-for large aircraft)seat rows according to the cabin layout of the
aircraft. Its purpose is to cover storage compartment on an aircraft where

INTRODUCTIO
N
A PASSENGER SEAT is a seat on an Airliner in which passengers are
accommodated for the duration of the journey. Such seats are usually
arranged in rows running across the airplane's FUSELAGE.
The seats are attached to rails underneath the floor which run along the
aircraft fuselage.
For passenger safety, airline seats are equipped with SEATBELTS, and
there is a FASTEN SEATBELT" sign above each seat, which is lit up when
passengers are expected to remain seated with the seatbelt fastened. This
is during taxiing, take-off and landing, although during TURBULENCE may
also prompt the Captain to turn on this sign.

SEAT SIZE
* When evaluating the size (and comfort) of a seat, the main terms used are
PITCH and WIDTH.
Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology
SEAT WIDTH - is the distance from ARM-REST to ARM-REST, and shall be dependent
to type of seat classes. In Economy Class this is typically around 43-46 cm. (17
18 inches)
Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology
SEAT PITCH- refers to the space between a point on one seat and the same point
on the seat in front of it. For many Airliners, the seat pitch in ECONOMY CLASS is
30 to 32 inches (76 to 81 cm).
More seat pitch can mean more legroom, but legroom is also affected by the
thickness of the seat back. The largest seat pitch in any commercial airline's short-
haul economy section is 36 inches (91 cm) in multiple airliners' aircraft. BUSINESS
CLASS seat pitch can go up to 62 inches (160 cm), and in the FIRST CLASS flatbed
seats can have a seat pitch of 94 inches (240 cm).
The seat pitch on LOW COST CARRIERS can be as low as 28 inches (71 cm) .

The main purpose of a ceiling panels assembly are to
provide an attractive, finished appearance and insulate
the cabin against noise, dust, and heat loss.
